Pre-race routine:
I got up at "early morning spin" time, had a bowl of cereal and drove to Carolina Beach
Event warmup:
This was my second time doing this event and I remembered to stop and the Port City Java just after crossing into Carolina Beach. I was early so I had a coffee and used the flush toilets (always a plus!). Then I drove up to the parking area near the McDonald's which is right next to the 10k start. I walked to the check in area and walked back and visited the blue houses and walked back, etc.

Course:
The course is flat with lots of loops through the town of Carolina Beach. The event consists of a 5k and a 10k. The 10k starts and then the 5k starts about 10 minutes later. The starting lines are not at the same location but the events do share a finish line. The gotchas for the event are (1) last .1 on the sand and (2) 10k runners mix with slow/walking 5k runners for the last quarter mile or half mile.
