Overall Rank = 905/2740
Age Group = M55-59
Age Group Rank = 17/81
Event warmup:

Just some stretches with surgical tubing and jumping up and down in water.
Swim
  • 36m 10s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started on the outside. Shallow enough to walk first 100 yds. Caught up to previous wave just after first turn. Hard time getting through. Tried not to go over anyone. Smooth after that. Seemed like I was always on the periphery.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. A very controlled swim.
Transition 1
  • 03m 15s
Comments:

Had to put number on back. Did not rotate it around, and with the elastic type belt I had, I could not rotate it with one hand. Ended up tearing off the number, so stuck it in my back shirt pouch. Luckily did not get penalized to my knowledge, but had to take extra time in T2 to find my second bib number.
What would you do differently?:

Get my number in place before taking off.
Bike
  • 2h 58m 56s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.78 mile/hr
Comments:

At about mile 18 was reaching back for a drink bottle and lost control on a smooth straighaway. Went down and got scraped up with a bruised hip. Bike was ok except had to put chain back on.
What would you do differently?:

Be more careful when getting a drink. Train more on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 04m 2s
Comments:

Had to take time to get other bib number. Had to check scrapes to make sure I could continue. Took time to cover up transition bag with plastic bag as it was starting to rain.
What would you do differently?:

Under the circumstances, not much.
Run
  • 1h 56m 21s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Dealing with hip pain from bike spill.
What would you do differently?:

Do longer training workouts and bricks.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hip pain from bike spill. Lack of bike conditioning.

Event comments:

The medical tent was not prepared to treat my wounds. They did not clean them at all. They also said they had no Tylenol for pain.

Some friends were given Sprint medals for the 70.3, and told they were 700 medals short. That is inexcusable..not only coming up short on the medals, but trying to foist a Sprint Tri medal on them hoping they would not notice.

A shirt, a swag and a box of cereal at number pickup? Not much for our $275.
