Pre-race routine:

weight = 225#s...put down the pizza & beer for pete's sake..
Event warmup:

try to keep stuff as dry as possible.
Swim
  • 30m 53s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

pretty sad when you feel like you a cruising along at a good pace and you look to your side and see someone lethargically breast-stroking at the same speed. When i try to draft off someone it feels like it always speeds them up and slows me down. exact same time as last year...at least i'm consistent.
What would you do differently?:

swim more and get some coaching.
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

hah. dropped my goggles running up the grass chute. when i turned back to get them i slipped on the invisible banana peel and thudded to earth. gave the crowd a good laugh. so graceful.

due to the mud i put my bike shoes on in transition rather than pre mount them to the bike.
What would you do differently?:

don't fall.

time 2:52, rank 37(AG)/373(OA)
Bike
  • 1h 13m 59s
  • 25.48 miles
  • 20.66 mile/hr
Comments:

great ride except for dropping my chain on the hill at mile 3 which cost about a minute. last year I flatted, so this was an improvement. enjoyed the new bike and disk cover. stayed in aero position pretty well. hydroplaned a bit on the first big descent so i dialed it back a bit. spun out on the compact cranks several times...could probably use an 11 on the back if roads were dry. climbs were ok, but i am moving alot of unnecessary beef. took only water and had 3 gels which worked well.
What would you do differently?:

shift better
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

gnarly descent into transition with the mud and wet. took a little extra time to dry off the dogs as i was running sockless for first time in a race.
time 1:12 rank 6(AG)/152(OA)
Run
  • 48m 31s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

good run. felt like i managed the hills well and had a strong finish kick.
What would you do differently?:

a little less Vaseline in the shoes. i was moving around alot in there.
Post race
Warm down:

eat. cheer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

swimming like a tug boat.

Event comments:

great race. fun course. excellent volunteers. weak food.
