Comments:

I ran to the 10K start to warm up, then waited for the gun. I took off planning on a low 9 pace. Felt ok until about 1/2 mile into it and my right shin cramped, then my calf. I had to stop to stretch it on a curb, then my quads, hams, adductors all kicked into one major spasm. I stood on the side of the road for what seemed like an eternity trying to make it stop. One of the police officers wanted to call EMS!! I convinced her I was fine, and hobbled away! I think she sent another officer on the motorcycle after me because he stayed with me most of the run! I was easy to spot, wearing my TRIXIE green shirt!! :)

My first mile turned into about 15 minutes, which made my mission to still make my goal of under an hour seem impossible.

The first water station was at 2.5, which was a LONG way. I was really thirsty by that point. I walked the water stations and took 2 cups of water each. I started feeling better by mile 3.5, and felt awesome by mile 4. Miles 4-5 I ran in 8:25. There were 4 long hills thrown in there too that jacked up my HR! I thought if I pushed hard enough I could still make my goal, but that last freaking mile was a long one!! I rounded the corner to the finish and had to go around the track, some of it was through sand, which I slowed down for, then I hit the track. It was the rubberized, bouncy kind. How awesome to run on!!

Crossed the finish line and looked at my watch, UGH! So close, but no cigar! OH, well! Maybe next time!

What would you do differently?:

Not cramp up. I think the big lasix push this week to decrease my swelling had me a bit dehydrated today, BUT at least I didn't have as much fluid! I still swelled through the run and finished with hives all over my legs and belly!

Warm down:

Mike, Ben & Beka were at the finish line yelling for me. I got some Gatorade and a banana. Then off to find the truck and drive an hour for our first of two Thanksgiving dinners.

This was an awesome way to kick off Thanksgiving. The kids had fun, and I loved seeing them out being healthy and striving for a goal. This will certainly be a new Thanksgiving tradition for us!! :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inability to regulate fluids!

Event comments:

This was the 27th Turkey Trot. It was organized and had lots of volunteers. Awesome of the volunteers to come out on Thanksgiving to help!!
