Swim
Comments: first 500 m was pretty crazy for my first IM. Lots of contact but nothing too nasty. stayed to the outside and had lots of open water for next 2km. the last 1km was a little more interesting, sun was to my left, the way I sight and it made it a little bit more challenging to sight(non-bilateral breather)goggles got a little foggy so found it harder to find hotel and bouys. last 50 m got kicked in the face and snapped my goggles off and broke the nose peice so they were toast but luckily I was able to stand and walk in. The rocks were not real good on the feet but I made it in and felt great about the whole swim. What would you do differently?: take care of goggles so they don't fog. Transition 1
Comments: messed up big time here. was so nervous before race I left some stuff for my bike in my dry bag. had to get a couple volunteers to me find the bag in a mountain of bags to get what I needed. 10 mins later, Got it and got ready to roll. What would you do differently?: NEED TO RELAX AND GET MY STUFF SORTED OUT. Bike
Comments: I had a great ride for the most part. first 60 km were great felt strong climbing Richter met the family at the top of the hill, what an awesome momment the smiles the high fives the hugs, man I was so happy and having s omuch fun. Then the down hill to the seven sisters. They were not as bad as I had heard but then we got to Cawston and hit the head winds, they were freakin brutal at the out and back 60-65 kmh. It took so much out my legs. Satying in areo did not help much, man that was tough. Got to Yellow lake and my legs were tired. climbed well, passed lots of people and just missed the big downpour. roads were a little damp and still got hit with a little drizzle but not to bad. the down hills were great 70-75 kmh. so glad to get off the bike for sure. What would you do differently?: maybe not spin so much on the hills and go a little faster on the flats, burnt the legs I think Transition 2
Comments: much better than T1 Run
Comments: FIRST 20-23KM were pretty good. legs were cramping in frist 1-2 km off n=bike but relaxed a little. Still sore though. after that it all walk run, legs were fried. could not go more than 500 m without walking, triedto run between aid staions but could not do it.Got into town and ran as much as I could, not much. Found family waiting just before Lakeshore and decide no matter what I was going to run it out. Got to turn around and was struggling big time, did not know if I could run it. A guy told me that if I could run the last 1 km in 5 min I could break 14:00. Started to go, saw the clock on the finish line and all the people, man wha ta rush, sprinted the last 100m and finished hard jus tunder 14hr. wha ta feeleing. What would you do differently?: run more long miles, leg strength workouts, stretching Post race
Warm down: pizza What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of long miles running and to hard on the hills in the bike leg Event comments: the best time ever, highs were super high lows were super low. what a great day. I loved it all Last updated: 2010-01-18 12:00 AM
