Pre-race routine:

Found a rack close to the front, which incidentally was literally outside of the doors from the pool. Couldn't have had a better spot. Was a little crowded as the racks started to fill in, but nothing that couldn't be handled.
Event warmup:

Nothing. But seemed like I had to go to the bathroom a lot from all the water I drank before I left the house.
Swim
  • 11m 20s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Passing got to be a little tricky in the lanes. I had to pass 4 people or more within the first 100 yards, and there were people on the other side of the lane coming in the opposite direction. Couple of them weren't paying attention and nearly ran into me.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more in the pool.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Decided to wear my Vibram 5 Fingers for the run so put the toe socks on for the bike. Used powder in the toes helped a lot, but still fumbled because I tried to have them rolled up to put on. Didn't work as well as I would have liked. Will practice this transition.
What would you do differently?:

Putting on toe socks.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 8 miles

Comments:

Glad that I took all those spinning classes. It helped alot. Especially with the hill.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

This was the easiest transition. Took off bike shoes and had no trouble with my 5 fingers shoes. Slipped on a shirt, cap and glasses, and I was off.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.2 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

The finish was uphill, but most of the bikers were off the route by this time. Got inspired to kick into gear when my husband saw me coming up the hill. Thank goodness for the sprint training with Jenn the last few weeks.
What would you do differently?:

Wouldn't finish the race up a hill.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around alot to loosen up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Was having a good time enjoying the surroundings and the people. Oh, and the hill at the finish line.

Event comments:

Was good, but it didn't start on time - which confused a lot of people.

The times were being entered into their database as they came in hand written, so it was difficult to get splits. They are supposed to be available today on the website, but I haven't seen them. I was able to get a very quick glimpse of my overall time before I left while the student was still entering data into his computer.

The guys singing during/at the end of the race was just aweful... Could have done without the Frank Sinatra impersonator type.

Not really sure about the time here. But my bike timer had it around 42 minutes.
Wind: None
Course: Course was a little strange. From transition, we went down hill and around a corner to get onto the course at the up hill. Once to the top, it leveled out and turned a corner again to go down hill at about 30 mph. Watch your teeth boys! Break neck speeds ahead. Then, you had to be careful to slow down to go around the corner to go UP the next street. This route used two blocks; one part traveling UP hill at about 4-6 mph spinning, and then down hill very FAST.

Again, not sure what the times were here.
Course: Course went down the hill the riders were coming up, and flattened out along Clear Creek. I run this route (near Tucker Gulch) often, so it is not difficult for me. It is a slight up hill on the way to the turn around, and feels pretty good coming back.
