![]() Swim
Comments: Overall pretty happy with the swim, especially considering the conditions. I was hoping for a 45 minute swim, so 46 ain't bad. What would you do differently?: Swim faster, still in "learning how to swim" mode. So I have not worked on increasing speed, but rather nice smooth stroke. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: rubber band snapped during run out, so shoes started hitting the ground. Was pretty pleased with run through to bike area and how fast I was able to get out of my wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Stronger rubber band. ![]() Bike
Comments: Enjoyed the bike, pushed it but felt comfortable. I definetly need to get refit for my bike. Feels like I cannot get down low enough, and the wind punished me for that. What would you do differently?: Drink a little less coming off the bike, and get some solid's incorporated into my nutrition. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Had to pee really, really bad. This left all reason out the window. So after dropping bike off, I grabbed my running shoes and socks and ran to the port a potty. Once I was done with my business I sat down to put my socks on and got little sand burrs all over them. So I had to pick them out. Once I finally got my shoes on, I realized I had forgotten to take off my helmet. So had to run back to my rack area and leave helmet. Felt lost and confused throughout. What would you do differently?: Not sure, although I see why people use buckets, or little stools in transition. Not only would the pre race be more comfortable, but putting on socks and shoes would be much easier. ![]() Run
Comments: Really bad run. Honestly I do not think I overcooked the bike, although that may have contributed. I think it is more of a lack of mental preparedness, then physical. I was hot, so drank way too much. Watched a lot of those around me walking and that got to me. What would you do differently?: Run the whole thing (or more of it anyway). More Transition runs to get used to the fatigue from the bike. Sponges in the shirt/collar. Drink less. I was hydrated, just hot. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked around, got snappy at my wife (thank you for putting up with me). Looked for a chair, finally found a bench. Waited for Jay to come in and got a massage. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat on the run and not understanding how to deal with it. Nerves on the swim. Little rookie mistakes here and there. Event comments: Was a great place to do my first HIM. If I had known that the post race celebration was going to end at 4, I would have gotten there sooner. Nothing like Abita to rehydrate. Light snacks. Hydrate a bit. Got to transition about 4:50. Double checked everything visited the port a potty a number of times.
Light swim, just to get the wetsuit wet.
