Run
Comments: Started with long sleeves as it was 55F and raining. Checked pace about third of a mile in and saw 5:18 on the Garmin, wisely slowed down on the climb but mostly held position. Stripped shirt before transition and cruised on in resisting urge to stepup the pace. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Nabbed a great T-spot by the run entrance/exit, good position if you don't mind running in your socks. Went through fast but unhurried, best T1 by 8 seconds. Glasses fogged bad as I was running out of T1 and there were a bunch of slower moving duathletes to dodge. Difficulty seeing made for a sketchy time getting into shoes, kept feet on top of shoes all the way out of the park until I could wipe the glasses and see better. What would you do differently?: Not wear the glasses Bike
Comments: Got glasses cleared off, up to speed, and feet into shoes then settled in. Played cat and mouse with 2 other guys on the first climb and had to coast from time-to-time to avoid drafting. I was trying a strategy of easier pacing on the hills to keep power all the way over the crest and give better acceleration. Definitely worked as I dropped the 2 guys at the turn back into the park (false flat) and didn't see them again. My glasses fogged over again so stowed them in back pocket. Each lap was pretty much the same, the course was very bunched up with big empty stretches between groups. What would you do differently?: Pretty good ride given the conditions and where I've been on bike training recently. Transition 2
Comments: Another best transition time. Long run from dismount to rack, got partially cut off by someone looking for their bike but squeezed through. What would you do differently?: nothing. Run
Comments: Been slacking on bricks the past month or so and felt it for the first half mile. Then got into relaxed, quick stride. Stepped up effort about halfway through as someone was breathing down my neck, they got by about mile 2. Pretty fast last half mile as I chased down 6th place. What would you do differently?: be better prepared with bricks Post race
Warm down: found family, hung out and tried to stay warm. What limited your ability to perform faster: Inexperience in the duathlong but I think I got it pretty close, didn't feel I left much on the table anywhere. Training the past 6 weeks has been less consistent than I'd prefer, but adequate. Event comments: I understand the decision to change the Tri to a Du and it was a great opportunity to give Duathlon a shot. Definitely appreciate JCPR and all the volunteers holding this event given the conditions. Last updated: 2010-01-22 12:00 AM

Nothing but rain for past week, the Tri was called to a Du day before race, had to rethink my race strategy, never done a Du so was somewhat concerned about going out too hard on the run and paying for it on the bike.
Gave bike a pre-race onceover on the trainer the day before due to constant rain. Didn't get stuff packed and car loaded until 11pm. Then up at 4:45 for breakfast, and off to get a good T-spot. Kara, Riley, Dad & Karen showed up before start.
Biked 1-2 miles to give shifting a final check and check roads. Ran half mile, stood in line for portacrapper, then jogged over to start and did a couple strides.
