Swim
Comments: Best swim ever. Coach Harry would have been proud. What would you do differently?: For a better time, I would start out more aggressively with the arm pulls. I noted that my legs were not as buoyant in the river than in the pool (don't understand that) but near the last 1/2 of the swim, I started to really use my arms and I noticed a big difference in my speed. The water temp was perfect. I did not have any panic episodes (YAY!) and I felt good throughout the entire swim. I wasn't even out of breath when I got out. :) Transition 1
Comments: first transitiono went smoothly. What would you do differently?: I downed a lot of water and gatorade at this transition. I had some trouble towling off and getting the grass off my feet. I just gave up after a few attempts. once on the bike I was good. Bike
Comments: This was a very pleasant scenic ride. Lots of long hills. I figured I would average around 13 mph but did much better than that. my energy level was high throughout the entire ride and I had a BIG smile on my face the last 6 miles :) :) :) What would you do differently?: I'd pay better attention to my fluid consumption. I overhydrated on the ride and it impacted my run. I should have had a gu during the ride -- instead I did that during the run, bad idea. I ate one luna mini (80 cal), one teeny shot blok (30 cal), 3 sport beans (20 cal), and gatorade. Total of 200 calories max -- definitely not enough to sustain me through the run -- must eat more next time. Drink less. Transition 2
Comments: transition 2 went well -- I was so glad to get off the bike but the transition area is HUGE and I had to run through the grass. still I drank too much water and had to pee. What would you do differently?: drink less. eat more salt. plan to run with the bike. Someone left their bike right on top of my stuff and it pissed me off because I had to move her bike to get to my gear to change shoes. that's not cool. Run
Comments: I drank too much on the bike ride and had to make a potty break during the run. I felt bloated and water heavy. I walked quite a bit. I must have peed about a full liter. That has never happened to me before. What would you do differently?: be cautious about my fluid intake -- even though I was thirsty, I wasn't using my water/gatorade well. I didn't eat enough on the bike ride either. I tried a portion of gu during the run and that helped but I wanted to vomit -- took total of 50 calories during the run. Not enough. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: my eating and drinking was not managed well. I could have done better with some better food planning. Event comments: very well organized race -- I was really impressed by the support on the long out and back bike route. Lots of volunteers. best race support I've seen.
