Swim
  • 40m 6s
  • 1900 meters
  • 02m 07s / 100 meters
Comments:

Bit too crowded in some areas, almost lost my goggles from a punch in the face hehe. Swam better than expected.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up a little more.
Transition 1
  • 03m 28s
Comments:

Only the second time that I have competed in a suit, so still getting the hang of taking it off quickly.
Bike
  • 2h 44m 52s
  • 90.1 kms
  • 32.79 km/hr
Comments:

Aimed for 3 hours in the ride so I was really happy with my time. I felt like I paced myself just right and drank just the right amount of fluids.
Almost came off the bike by way of a stray drink bottle from the chick in front. Nutrition was 2 gels short, but made sure that I had a bar instead to make up for it and also had salt tablets.
What would you do differently?:

Only had 3 gels with me as I packed them in my fuel belt. Next time I need more gels.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Felt like I had a good transition, with getting my shoes, hat and fuel belt on.
Run
  • 1h 52m 13s
  • 21.1 kms
  • 05m 19s  min/km
Comments:

Left ankle and achilles were extremely tight so the first lap was really slow. Couldn't get comfortable with my stride til the 2nd lap. Kept my heart rate under 160 BPM. Really loosed up in the last lap with my family and friends cheering me on. Pushed myself on the home stretch.
What would you do differently?:

Looking back I think I could have run a little faster in the second lap.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched as soon as I finished. Waited for Dave to finish then went to see my family and then came back to stretch for another 10 mins.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My lack of swim technique/training - definately need to get some one on one lessons. If I can shave 5 mins off my swim time next yr then I will be happy.
The pain in my ankle and achilles really stopped from getting into a groove early on. Not too sure what the pain was but I have not experienced it before. I did have numb toes at the end of the ride so I think that was a big contributor.

Event comments:

For my first half ironman, I could not have wished for a better experience - it was truelly awesome.
I can not wait until next year.
