Swim
Comments: Oh the swim! Honestly ... I was doing sooooo well. Made it to the turn and let out a little whoop and realized I was still with my wave. Mere minutes later I was panicking and doggie paddling. Yikes. We turned and the water chop was coming head on and i was surrounded by people. I pretty much doggie paddled all the way past the last bouy, got my resolve and breathing under control and stroked it back in - even breathing on every breath if needed. So, at least 1/3 of the swim was just terrible and it shows in my ag results!! Definitely have to keep working on that! What would you do differently?: Learn not to panic. I was fine! Transition 1
Comments: Ran all the way up to transition. it's a long run and my legs felt tight. Flopped around trying to get my wetsuit over my ankles but did better than my races last year. I had forgotten to leave my Garmin out so i fished around for that and got the heck out of there! What would you do differently?: Not too much - I should get faster but until I am better at the sports (especially the swim) themselves this isn't an area of focus for me. Bike
Comments: After the swim I was pretty determined to redeem myself. Set out pretty well, keeping my cadence up. The course was pretty packed. Lots of rolling hills. Sipped on Gatorade. Passed at least 5 girls in my age group! woo. I felt i climbed the hills well and had fun on the descents. Had a couple of on-going battles. An older guy in a yellow tri suit would pass me on the descents and I would pass him again on the climb. He passed me right before coming in transition. erg. I passed another girl in my age group on a hybrid bike then tried to pass me a few times. I didn't block her but i did pick up the pace. What would you do differently?: Maybe fuel a little more - just sipped on Gatorade a bit. The weather was really heating up Transition 2
Comments: The girl on the hybrid came in right after me and i wanted to beat her but she got out of transition first. Bleh. Oh well, I need to put the zip laces on my shoes. What would you do differently?: Zip laces on my shoes. I have them. Run
Comments: This is where I really shine. Obviously I am strongest at the run and it is really nice to finish out strong. Turns out my run was 9th in my AG! It was pretty toasty hot by the time we got on the run. Started out faster than I should have but reeled it in a bit to manage my effort. I stopped at each aid station (4x) to take a few real sips of water and dump the rest on myself. I did really well on this and passed quite a few people. To start with: the hybrid-bike girl who beat me out of transition, she start walking pretty much right away. Check. then I saw yellow tri suit guy up ahead but I don't think I passed him until after the turn around. check! Then I picked it up as there was a girl in my age group right in the last 200m or so. I didn't pass her but made her pick up the pace. Who knew I was so competitive? What would you do differently?: Nothing. I managed very well. for a hot day i might think about bringing my fuel belt so i don't have to stop at aid stations but then it really wasn't a big deal either. Post race
Warm down: None, found my awesome fiance and grabbed some post race food. Went and sat by the lake and eventually dipped my feet in. :D What limited your ability to perform faster: The swim! Event comments: Well, although the swim sucked. I am very happy that I got through it. That's what it was all about and that is a success. It's a great event - a busy one - but well organized and a great race venue! Last updated: 2010-01-24 12:00 AM

This race started at an odd time: 1:00. So, I ate some breakfast, took a once-over of transition stuff and we headed out.
There was a long wait between registration and the race start. With about a half hour to go I ate a Clif bar then put on my wetsuit and did a warm up swim. The water was colder than last year so the warm up was a great thingg!
