Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4 am. First thing I did was drink about 12 oz of gatorade. Came back up stairs to change and get ready. Moved around a little bit, made sure I went to the bathroom. About 4:45, ate a piece of toast with penut butter and jelly.


Event warmup:

Got to Carlsbad around 6:30. Luckily, the mall was open so we could stay warm. Went for a quick 10 min jog, came back and stretched. Felt pretty good and was very relaxed. Headed out to the start around 7:20. Luckily, I saw the 2:00hr pace group and I lined up with them.

Comments:

Overall, I think I ran the race pretty well. It worked out well that I found the 2:00 pace group at the start. I stuck with them for the first 2 miles and then took off. The group was running a little slow for me. If I stuck with the group, I may have finished faster. First half went really well. I felt great. Legs started to get tired around mile 8, but finished strong.


What would you do differently?:

Maybe start a little slower in the first half next time and turn it up in the second half.

Warm down:

Walked around, took some recovery nutrition and a banana. Stretched a little afterwards.

Awesome race. Highly recommend the race to anyone.
