Comments:

It too until at least 500-600yds for me to get in the groove of swimming. I was trying to follow another girl and that caused me to go off course a bit. Around the halfway mark I started getting hot but sucked it up and decided to push the pace. This swim seem to take forever, I kept looking at the bouys and thought holy crap I'm not done yet. I did pass the some of the men who started 2 min. earlier.

What would you do differently?:

This was one of my slowest times every swimming so not sure what is going on. Coming out of the water I felt ok but now looking at the time I'm not really happy with it.

Comments:

I'm actually really surpried with this time, I sort of jogged up to the bike and it took forever to get the wetsuit off. At one point I just decided to take my time and not rush it with knowing the bike was coming up.

Comments:

The first couple of miles has some decent incline, with driving the course the day before I knew I was going to push hard on the downhills to make up for the up hills. Around mile 8 you turn onto a country road that wasn't the best pavement it was also around the same time it started to rain a bit. Got a little scary as I was trying to bomb the downhills and it was pretty slick. Around mile 15 it was a flat section but my legs didn't have anything I was only going 10mph and knew I was done in regards to my time I wanted. Mentally this was a low point knowing the HILL was coming up and I didn't know how was I going to make it up the HILL if I couldn't go on a flat, not sure what was going on I had felt good even on the other hills I knew I was slow but this was bad. Mile 16ish started the 3 mile climb at 6.5%, I started up it and started chanting to myself, I've counted before but that wasn't going to work this time. Had a couple phrases one for the left leg and one for the right leg this actually helped alot just move up down up down. Finally made it up the damn HILL, I bombed down hitting 37mph at one point if I felt braver could have gone faster. Had to start hitting the breaks since the turn towards the park was coming up. Coming into the park was a little hectic they coned off a couple feet for the bikes but cars were driving almost hit a major pot hole because a car had just stopped.

What would you do differently?:

Train more, I haven't been on the bike much yet. I'm just happy I made it up the HILL without stopping.

Should have used my road bike it is much better at climbing.

Comments:

First 1/2 mile was a incline over the highway than began the downhill, down hills can be tougher on the legs just learned that one from the trail race, I tried to push it but legs were beat from going down, down and down again. It evened out a bit right before the turn around at mile 3 yippee we get to go back the way we came, uphill, around mile 4 we turned off and I knew the monster hill was coming up at mile 4.5 pretty much everyone walked this, it was about a 7% uphill for at least .5 miles. We turned off onto a trail at mile 5ish which was also uphill, really! and rocky, loose rocks I decided to walk this section afraid my legs wouldn't pick up and I'd either twist my ankle or fall on my ass, continued on the trail until around mile 5.5 a ended on the park road and finished.
What would you do differently?:

Train more, couldn't do much more considering the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

I felt fine throughout the race thankfully it was overcast but as soon as I stopped I got dizzy. I think between not drinking a lot on the bike and the run course only had water caused it. I was able to get ice cream afterwards which was needed. Stayed for the awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not get stomach virus the week of the race. Train more.

Event comments:

I like the smaller races but they did seem a bit disorganized especially the day before. I went to get my packet pickup and was just handed the bag and a t-shirt, no explanation about the wrist band, where to rack the bike, course maps weren't ready. If this had been my first tri I would have been worried and confused. Overall, I'm glad I did the race and will do it again some day to prove I can get better on those hills.
