Comments: Larry and Sean took off without me while I was looking for Rene. Unknown to me they had found Rene and took off thinking I was gone. They easily left 15 minutes or more before me. I found Rene on top of the Zoo hill. I was working hard and probably made up good time because when I found Rene they were 10 minutes ahead. By the time we got to the mile 18 rest stop they were about 5 minutes ahead. We rode together for the rest of the ride. Climbing: Since it was a different route back from mile 18 it is difficult to compare the two years. I believe my climbing was better this year but it is so hard to tell because even though you are going faster you are working just as hard and feel just as miserable. What would you do differently?: First ride of the year I don't know if I would do anything differently. I had on good clothing/equipment as well as some decent training. I was a little disappointed with my speed but it was close to my daily cycle Oregon pace. Post race
Warm down: None. What limited your ability to perform faster: Maybe climbing. I could try some lower cadence high level training on the LifeCycle to simulate hills more closely. Event comments: With 3500 riders it is the 2nd largest group ride in Oregon. The course was fine. The riders weren't overly aggressive. The food and beer area were enjoyable and the weather went from wet to dry. Good friends and good ride make for a good day. Last updated: 2010-01-27 12:00 AM

Purchased some Gatorade and a 5 hours shot. I had cereal before I left the house and had coffee and a Donut at the start. Since I knew it was going to be 45 to 50 for the event I went with Tights, Poly Top, Bike Top, Rain Jacket, Neoprene Gloves and Toe covers. This would prove to be a good combination. My toes were cold at the end but OK for most of the ride.
Since this was a group event vice a race I did not warm up.
