Swim
Comments: Started very slow because I've gone out too fast my previous two pool tris this year and freaked out requiring me to do side-stroke. Able to pick up pace a bit after the first 5 laps. Success! Was able to slowly crawl the entire way. What would you do differently?: Could start a bit faster. Transition 1
Comments: I was almost the farthest bike from the pool, long and cold run. No problems through and able to get ready to go fairly quickly. Bike
Comments: Enjoyed the bike, borrowed the bike since I didn't want to bring mine to AK and it had much more aggressive positioning then mine, but worked well and I was happy to have it. Used the aero bars some and was shocked by the sheer number of Cervelos passing me. They must be popular in AK! What would you do differently?: Could have pushed the pace a bit, really wanted to save enough for the run. Transition 2
Comments: No problems, pretty fast. Was close for this transition. Run
Comments: Rather chilly run, but no problems keeping cool! I felt icky and still am not sure why, perhaps the lack of eating in the morning. Twice had to walk a bit due to side stitches, which I haven't had in months of training or either of my previous races this year. What would you do differently?: Aim for better nutrition before the race. Post race
Warm down: Met up with my weary father (who was watching the kiddos), my aunt and her kids. Walked around a bit. Got an amazing cookie and orange wedges. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nutrition early in the morn. Event comments: It is much more fun to race with family and friends. I miss that in Oregon! So nice to have folks cheering you on and waiting for you at the finish line. Supportive race. Last updated: 2010-02-01 12:00 AM

Got up, felt nauseous, tried to eat toast, no luck. Did drink some OJ. Loaded up kids (not a typical part of my pre-race routine, but was racing with both my sisters and my mom, sis has a 20 mo and a 6 mo). Set up transition area with the superb help of the 20 mo who kept wanting to touch all the bikes and try on everyone's "bike hats".
Not much. Did go to the bathroom and realize I was still wearing underwear under my tri suit. Doh, that would NOT have felt good to have cotton undies on after the swim.
