Pre-race routine:

Pacing and trying to figure out the route LOL
Event warmup:

stretching, just jogged about minute
Run
  • 09m 36s
  • 1 miles
  • 09m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt out of breath the whole way. I was BOP as expected since I only jog. However, I was shocked to see my time for the first mile. No wonder I was out of breath! I have never run that fast that far! In fact, on a treadmill I have only done a 10" pace for about 1/4 mile.
What would you do differently?:

Had on tech long sleeve, tech running jacket, and bike jacket, and my bike gloves. Should not have worn the running jacket, but if it rained harder I thought I would be cold on the bike.
Transition 1
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Fumbled a bit getting glasses on and the helmet over my hat with the gloves on. Then slogging thru the mud over to the road.
What would you do differently?:

not sure, needed the hat because of the rain. Maybe the gloves should have been put on in transition instead of before the run.
Bike
  • 47m 21s
  • 10 miles
  • 12.67 mile/hr
Comments:

As expected, right at the back. Passed by several, I passed one. Finished the bike section next to last. Not too bad for my old steelie. Pretty much at my top training speed.
Actually felt that I recovered my breath on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Get a road bike
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

smooth and pretty quick, had to dodge a couple mud puddles.
took off helmet and gloves. left on glasses and hat and jacket. I had the race belt over the bike jacket and didn't want to fight with it.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 10m 9s
  • 1 miles
  • 10m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Still wished I had one less layer on. Felt sloggy but tried to concentrate on form. Passed 2-3 people.

Must have done okay. Another faster than my average run! Totally shocked at my run times! In a good way LOL
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Tried to breathe! LOL Walked around, changed my outer layer of clothes. Ate and drank a little.

Event comments:

This was my first multi-sport event (actually only my 2nd event ever, since 1st one was a 5K in November.

This gave me some experience in a group and in transitions to give me a base to work from. Glad I did it.
