Comments:

After Burk and the 100K mark I just gassed. Not sure what happened. Did 100k in under 3hrs which was good; only stopped once in Electra and then hopped off real quick between Electra and Burk when I saw Glenn again...tried to get a group update. I didn't feel like I was really pushing that hard in the beginning although I left my group early. Weather was great for the first couple of hours and I wanted to take advantage of it. Anyway, miles 60-90 weren't much fun...I think I underestimated that extra distance and route. I know the route so I should have been able to get my mind right but I just felt gassed. Hamstrings locked up a few times...that's quite painful. Back and shoulders ached for a bit. Of course this was when the heat and wind decided to show themselves. I knew this, wanting to get as far out as possible before it all hit me. Maybe next time I can get to 70mi before the hell begins.
What would you do differently?:

Well my nutrition was in question. I felt like I was short on calories but my stomach didn't really have room for anything. Went through a ton of water and sports drink...especially after Hell's Gate. Gotta iron that out a bit better but not sure how. Had some solids mixed in with gels, seemed to work ok.

Find a group that is gonna pace together and that I match. I thought I was in a good group but man, they all ended up split up and gone. Gotta find a race buddy with the same pace and plan as me. Take full advantage of the cool morning and then pace each other to the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Immediately saw Erin and the boys at the finish. Found some shade next to a dumpster, stretched a little, cooled down. Rode back to the shop and my truck, loaded back up, made a phone call, and drove home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The one thing that has always been slowing me down in these events so far. The thing I can't shake but I need to shake the most. The thing I love to do but kills me in the process...

Event comments:

Hopefully we can make it back for this after we move.
