Run
Comments: I was very conservative on this leg -- I had planned on it even before I got sick - I felt surprisingly good for the first time since Boston. What would you do differently?: Run faster Transition 1
Comments: Pretty happy with this - didn't fall off the bike - found everything real easy. What would you do differently?: Nada Bike
Comments: I am happy with this - my first bike in a race ever! My bike comp had me going 20.5 miles and I think I did go farther than the 19.5. Let up a little around mile 11 because my left hamstring/IT band was burning bad. Need to figure that out. Ate plenty of bugs as well. Apparently thare are these flys that only come for a few weeks out of the year and they were ALL OVER - in the last mile one flew right down my shirt. What would you do differently?: Not much - I wasn't really pushing it but I also was more interested in enjoying the race then pushing it at all. Need to learn how to drink water and ride at the same time because I got thirsty. Transition 2
Comments: I was happy again with this What would you do differently?: I was slow to get over to the Run out. I knew my legs would feel like crap coming off the bike so I shook them out a little. Run
Comments: I am surprised at this split - I would have thought I was going more like a 7:30. What would you do differently?: Run faster Post race
Warm down: Drank some water and some gatorade. What limited your ability to perform faster: Puking the day before Event comments: When I came around to the finnish and saw the clock at 1:37 - I calculated that my wave start put me 4 minutes off the clock - I had been thinking that a realistic time for me was a 1:35 and being sick closer to a 1:40. To see that I was going to break that 1:35 made me really happy! I finnished as the 41st female which is not bad given everything. For my first DU I am thrilled. I know that I could easily take 1:30-2 minutes off between the 2 runs and push the bike harder when I am feeling better. I had a great time and I am happy that I decided to go. Pre-Pre race consisted of the Stomach flu or something like that. Spent Saturday afternoon in bed and puked a few times. Hardly slept at all that night and was able to keep down a little food and water overnight.
I had decided ahead of time that if I woke up and hadn't gotten sick over night I would do the race. It would be my first Du and I coming off of Boston I didn't have high expectations. I have only been riding my bike for a week and runs have been - eh. Of course now I know why I haven't been 100% the last few days.
Luckily I was riding up with a team mate so I made the 90 minutes without having to focus on much other than keeping some fluids in.
Ate 1/2 a banana and 1/2 and english muffin - the race was early enough that food wasn't a hugh issue
None - no need to do any extra jiggling of the tummy.
My Garmin's battery was dead when I got to the race so no watch at all - which really didn't faze me for this race.
