Swim
Comments: Chop was rough and in my face going out and moving left to right on the back stretch. Unfortunately, I'm a left breather, so I took a few mouthfuls of water en route. Sighted well and avoided a lot of bodies. Had a few wayward swimmers crisscross over me. Repeatedly. WTF people? Cruised the last 200 yards in hopes of exiting water without being exhausted. What would you do differently?: Need to swim more than once a month to improve time... Transition 1
Comments: Had a hard time getting suit off of ankles. My usual pull down, step on and remove technique failed me for the first time. Cost me 30 seconds or so. Rack was close to swim exit, but waaaaay far away from bike start. What would you do differently?: Practice pulling off wetsuit maybe, but where? When? Bike
Comments: Oddly, got quad cramps in the first few miles and still continued to press pretty hard which I hoped wouldn't impact my run. Still, hate getting passed...Felt good and strong, likely held overall position: passed as many as got passed by. Managed course well. What would you do differently?: Make sure my water bottle isn't the leaky one - lost 1/2 a bottle due to bad lid. Def needed 40+ oz to maintain hydration. Transition 2
Comments: Felt smooth and fast. No issues, other than the long hike back to the rack. What would you do differently?: Loosen bike shoes in the final approach. Fergot... Run
Comments: Knew I had to break 8:00/miles to finish under 2:30. Decided to try to keep aggessive pace and if I burned out, so be it. Finished first mile in 7:11 and mile 2 in 7:15. Mild cramping set in my quads and I did miles 3-4 at about 7:40. Mile five was slower at 7:50ish and I thankfully got a final wind and finished cramp free and a sub-8 mile. Woohoo! What would you do differently?: Hydrate more on bike and continue leg strength and sprint drills to maintain better pacing/avoid cramping. Post race
Warm down: Felt pretty good! Minor stretching and got in the lake to cool down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim training, and overall conditioning. Event comments: Registration was slow - two people checking in. Very slow. Post-race "food" was unbelievably bad. Just pasta and bread. No cookies, fruit, anything else. Worst and most sparse I've ever seen at an event. On the upside, the ample volunteers for water and marking were all so nice. Last updated: 2010-02-01 12:00 AM

Arrived to gusty winds and very choppy water, but luckily they calmed a bit by race time. Had my 20 oz of coffee, banana and PB sammie on the ride in while listening to distracting prerace tunes in the car. I highly suggest "A Lapdance is So Much Better..." to keep your mind off of things.
Walked around, stretched, got in water for a 200 yard swim. Nothing eventful...
