Total Time = 1h 36m 29s
Overall Rank = 674/1591
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 163/327
Pre-race routine:

Got to transition early to get an end spot, then wait. Had a 2.5 hour wait til my swim wave start.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 13m 12s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt really good the whole time. Got kicked in goggles within first 3 seconds (got a nice little bruise below my right eye). Just suctioned more. Kept at it even though was sandwiched between 2 women. Swim spread out after rounding the first buoy. Tried stand to round the 2nd buoy by the beach, really threw off my rythm so didn't do that again, just rounded swimming even if slower.
What would you do differently?:

Get out front more so I don't keep getting kicked in the face3. I am not the fastest out of the chute, but I am one of the faster people by the end because I can keep the same pace and others end up slowing.
Transition 1
  • 03m 59s
Comments:

Wetsuit is always hard to get out of, but I am pretty sure I made up more time than I lost trying to get out of the thing. Was a pretty long run to my bike from the swim and area was not swept that well, so little rocks everywhere. My feet are very sensitive.

Also, had sand on my feet so spend a few extra seconds washing off and wiping off before putting socks and shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe leave a pair of shoes by beach? Maybe put my bike (if I can) closer to swim since I seems to run pretty well with the bike.
Bike
  • 42m 35s
  • 14.29 miles
  • 20.13 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike went really well from the beginning. I hammered it and felt good the entire first lap. Starting lagging a little on the second lap, but still was able to keep the speed pretty good. I probably held a cadence of 95+ which felt really good. Was getting up to 24 mph in some areas.

What would you do differently?:

Maybe take a gu gel at the beginning of the second lap since that is where I started lagging a bit.
Transition 2
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

I am just overall bad with transitions. Not my best area. Although I run really well with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe unbuckle my cycling shoes to get out of faster. Also, I seem to have a problem tying my shoes in transition. Try quick laces? Also, I seem to want to down my gu in transition with take a little extra time. Maybe learn to do that on the run to save some time.
Run
  • 34m 1s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was definitely less distance than shown. There is no way I ran undeer 11 min/miles. I think it was more like 2.75 miles based on my watch.

Coming out of transition I felt good. but run was horrible for me. Didn't get past 0.3 miles before I had to start walking. Walked about 1/3 of the course. Just couldn't slow myself down and get my HR down, so speed walked when I wasn't running. Was able to run the last mile, so felt good about that.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure - haven't don't enough to really know. Do more bricks? Maybe get a gu gel earlier? Not go as hard on the bike (but do I lose more on the bike than I am able to gain on the run -- probably not)? Slow it down?
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Going to hard on the bike probably limited my ability on the run. However, I am not good on the bike and haven't done too many bike/run bricks. I tried to make up as much time on the bike as possible knowing my run was VERY weak.

First time on bike course probably slowed me a little not totally know turns. Still very happy with bike though.

Event comments:

Fans were out in force all along the course.
