Pre-race routine:

Woke up about 5:00 am loaded the car and drove up. Had two cups of coffee on the way up and about 15 min before the start I had a cliff bar. Had some cliff shot chews on the bike and finished the pack on the 2nd run. That was about it.
Event warmup:

A little running to take pictures of the kids as they completed the kids duathlon.
Run
  • 18m 37s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Windy - did not push hard, but felt good. I started near the back, because I did not plan to push the run, but ended up having to bob back and forth to pass several people.
What would you do differently?:

Consider starting near the middle. Could have pushed a bit harder. Would like a way to determine my pace as I am going along to know if I need to pick up the pace so I can stay on target. Need to set some more specific time goals before the event starts. Because of the lack of consistent training building up to the race I did not set aggressive goals, but I probably could have pushed the run a bit harder.
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

Someone took my helmet so I spent a lot of time looking for my helmet then getting the keys to my car to pull out one of the kid's helmets. Probably wasted 3-5 minutes looking and walking the bike to the car to get the helmet. Good news is that whoever used my helmet left it on the ground so I got it back.
What would you do differently?:

Not have someone take my helmet.
Bike
  • 35m 59s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Some significant wind gusts. The wind seemed to always be pushing against me until near the end in the neighborhood. Weather Bug had wind gusts at 28 mph. Passed a lot of bikers, and was only passed by one tri bike at the end on the park road, but that was because I got stuck behind a truck and trailer that stopped in the road. Road bike made a big difference from my last race on a mountain bike with street tires.
What would you do differently?:

Not much felt like I pushed about as hard as I could and still run the final leg.
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

Rode the bike with my running shoes so it was a quick rack the bike and go.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 26m 56s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Wind was at my back on the way out and there was a significant (steep for me) downhill portion on the way out. This resulted in some wind and uphill segments on the way back, but it was more sheltered from the wind and the uphill portion seemed to be broken up a bit by the winding path. Pushed the last mile and according to my runkeeper gps it was about 1 min per mile faster (good for me).
What would you do differently?:

Not much, the run is still difficult for me. Just need to work on some speed and get more miles under my belt.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and talked with the kids drinking water. Stretched a little after my recover alarm (170-127 recovery, but I forgot to stop my watch for a little bit as I took off the timing chip and walked out of the shoot).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training leading up to the race. I went on vacation the full week before the race and did not get much training during that time and the week before that as I preparing for vacation.

Event comments:

Well run race. Not a large turnout, but still seemed very organized and efficient.

Course: The bike course is a loop on public roads. The course is slightly rolling with no major climbs and has wide shoulders for most of the loop. Some minor debris on the shoulder from the wind the night before, but for the most part the area was clear. Some sections were a bit chunky from pot holes, but a general good course.
