![]() Swim
Comments: I felt like I started a bit to fast as it took me about 300 to 400 meters to get my groove and relax. After the intial washing machine I tried to settle in and focus on my plan of sighting well and swimming "My" swim. That of course did not go as planned as my sighting was terrible. I had a very difficult time sighting during the entire swim do to my goggles constantly fogging up causing me to swim pretty much blind. This caused my navigation to be a little poor compared to what I was expecting and caused me to use extra energy to correct my course of swim. While I spent the entire race irritated about my lack of sight, the swim was capped off by my goggles completely snapping in half right at the end of the swim. Prior to the swim my goal was to finish between 26 and 27 minutes and even though I had difficulty sighting resulting in poor navigation, I did complete the swim in 27 minutes. What would you do differently?: Use my other pair of goggles and start off a bit slower. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: T1 was very smooth with the exception of my timing chip sliding off with my wetsuit. Long run from swim to T1 ![]() Bike
Comments: After exiting the transition area the bike course headed south for approximately 4 to 5 miles directly into a headwind. At the first turnaround we had a tailwind while headed north which put my speed at 25 to 26 MPH with very minimal effort. At the second turnaround we were again directly into a headwind which dropped my speed to 17 to 18 MPH. We did this loop two times and I felt very good throughout the bike. My legs felt great and I felt like I pushed myself just hard enough to finish within my goal time. My goal bike time was 1 hour 15 minutes and I finished in 1 hour 14 minutes. What would you do differently?: Nothing ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Could have been better. When taking my helmet off and putting running shoes on, I accidentally took my sunglasses off an threw them in my transition bag which took an extra couple of seconds to retrieve. What would you do differently?: Not take glasses off ![]() Run
Comments: Run headed north out of transition and first 2 to 2.5 miles of the run was on soft sand / gravel. While my legs felt good coming off of the bike, the sand quickly caused my quads to begin cramping. I just ran through the cramps and finally got to the pavement with the wind at my back. At the three mile turnaround, we began running against the wind and had a fairly strong headwind for the remainder of the run. My goal for the run was 8.5 minute miles and I hit sub 8 so I was very pleased with my run. What would you do differently?: Train more on soft sand ![]() Post race
Warm down: Upon receiving finishers medal I grabbed a couple of oranges, pretzels and a gatorade and met my family and watched while others finished. What limited your ability to perform faster: Terrible goggles on the swim Event comments: Very good and organized race that was tough and challenging. I would recommend this race to anyone interested in an Olympic distance and can't wait to do it again next year. Last updated: 2010-02-02 12:00 AM

Stayed at the host hotel which allowed me to sleep in until about 615 which still gave me enough time to get to the transition area and get a prime transition spot by 700. After setting up my transition area, I had a very small breakfast and walked over to the beach and watched the start of the Superfrog.
After watching the start of the Superfrog I did about a 10 to 15 minute easy run to stretch the legs. I stretched for about 5 minutes then put wetsuit on and did a very short swim to warm up.
