Pre-race routine:

Got up just before 6:00 alarm, blueberry bagel with PB, put the bikes on the car, bags in the car, and headed out about 6:45. Setup transition area and got in the port-o line before putting on the wetsuit and lining up.
Event warmup:

None. Should definitely stretch at least the calves next time as they have been known to cramp.
Swim
  • 10m 32s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Terrible swim. Breaststroke 90%. Wetsuit felt too tight before the race and feeling of constricted breathing continued throughout the swim. Need to look into sleeveless wetsuit as well as relaxed breathing when in open water and around other racers.
What would you do differently?:

Get short-sleeve wetsuit. Train more in open water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

Great T1 time, although I was right near the swim in and bike out in the transition area. Got the wetsuit stuck on the chip on ankle for a second. Slight issue clipping into pedals initially.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 52m 41s
  • 16 miles
  • 18.22 mile/hr
Comments:

Legs felt tired after a terrible swim where I needed much more legs for the breast stroke.
What would you do differently?:

All in all bike went about as well as expected. More hill work would definitely help.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Great time for T2. Off the bike quickly and pulled the shoes right on with the Yankz.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 22m 6s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Slower than other races, but expected after a terrible winter of lazy training.
What would you do differently?:

Train at faster speeds for the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a water, banana and bagel and went to hang with friends waiting for fellow triathletes to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad off-season diet and training.

Event comments:

Great race again this year. Close to home so easy logistically. Great to see family and friends and a good early season course with shorter swim and some solid hills on the bike.
