Swim
Comments: Swam side stroke and breast stroke for entire race. SUCKED. What would you do differently?: Test the water. The water was so cold that it took until I rounded the second buoy heading for the shore. Probably more mental at that point. Take a warm up swim performance will be better. Transition 1
Comments: Some confusion and lack of a sense of urgency to get out on the bike. Forgot to put on the Garmin for the bike. What would you do differently?: Work on getting out of the wet suit. practice doing transitions. ensure I practice and actually put on my Garmin. Bike
What would you do differently?: Practice mounting and dismounting without shoes. Practice riding with aerobars to ensure I am used to the position. Transition 2
Comments: Bike racks were a wood slat, barely able to hold a bike up. Had to lay bike down after fighting with it for a few seconds. What would you do differently?: Make a bike tire holder or buy one to have in the case the rack is similar. Run
Comments: Good run. Tried to keep mind off the run by helping others try to stay motivated. Good enough pace, keeping in mind what I just finished doing. Overall I think I could have done better, but I will take it. What would you do differently?: Make sure to put Garmin on in T1, instead of having to futz with it as I am running. Post race
Warm down: Short walk around the transition area, with water and fruit. What limited your ability to perform faster: THE SWIM. Man the water zapped me! Event comments: Best part of the race was having my family present and lighting up when they saw me out on the course. None of the Transition times were tracked. It appears the transition times were included in the time for the following event. (ex. T1 added to Bike, T2 added to Run). Makes me feel a bit better about the run I guess. Got to the event location at 0745. Way to early. I beat the race organizers to the race. Oh well. Gave me time to check in early and get marked up. Had plenty of time to set up my transition area, and slowly work through it prior to getting my wet suit on and heading to the water.
None. Bad Idea. Next time test the water and try to get used to it.
