Swim
Comments: gun went off and i sprinted....looked around a bit and saw i was by myself. Assumed i was well in the lead. turns out there was someone else that sprinted a bit further than i and i never saw him. But i went through the entire swim thinking i had a min+ lead on the entire field. Had no real power and was drinking alot of lake water, every few hundred i'd do a few breaststrokes and get a good breath and look around. After the first lap i stood up and hit my lap button, and everyone on shore thought i was lost. I wasnt i was just cruising. 2nd lap went quick and in no time I was running up the carpet...thinking i was in first What would you do differently?: swim faster, less dicking around Transition 1
Comments: horribly slow. had to put my tri jersey on...need to get one that doesnt have huge pockets in the back. but jersey didnt want to go on right. Probably took 30 seconds. Saw the guy ahead of me in transition and wondered who the hell it was. And saw Kevin Nickel come into tranistion, throw on his helmet and grab his bike and go. he came out of the water 35 seconds after me... What would you do differently?: need to get a better jersey, move faster, get there earlier for a outside rack spot Bike
Comments: no power and just rode average, had 2 people pass me like i was standing still and other that that just rode behind the guy that came out of the water in front of me. played leap frog a few times then pulled away a bit the last few miles What would you do differently?: train the engine harder Transition 2
Comments: much better transition, would like to run without socks but need to easy my way into that one Run
Comments: its my achilles heel...and i had no energy and the snot that I'd blown out in the swim made its triumphant comback. i ran the first 5k without stoppoing in 24 min and the 2nd 5k had a few walks. It got pretty brutal. Had stomach issues and cramping but i just keep moving. Got passed by a few guys here including 2 age groupers and that got me down a bit. nearing the finish i really poured it on when i looked back and saw a broseph absolutely charging after me. was able to stay ahead of him by 11 seconds...he had a 11 min faster 10k though. Thank god for his 30 min swim What would you do differently?: learn to run faster not be sick Post race
Warm down: went and hopped in the lake came up to see results... saw i got 5th in my age group but 9th overall... happy to be top 10 and with the top 2 guys in my age group i was definately satisfied with my finish. I think i had about 10 min i could have moved faster over the course of the thing. But hey theres always next year What limited your ability to perform faster: being sick and not training the last few weeks Event comments: its held 20 min away and had options for everyone. stood around a bit, knocked back a gel, did a little swim out and back, i've had upper body soreness from being sick all week and could feel it right from the get go.
