Run
Comments: I'm happy with the run, I did exactly what I wanted to: went out at 7:30 pace then slowly picked it up into the 7:10 area then sub-7 for the last half mile. Time-wise I'm happy, it's about where I thought I'd be at and it's damn close to my open 5K pace from last year. The legs got real heavy and the hamstrings started getting tight around mile 4.5 so I was just hanging on for a good portion of the race, I think more winter speedwork would have helped down the stretch. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Slow half mile jog then a long stretch, followed by refueling with Harpoon IPA...great way to finish a race! What limited your ability to perform faster: Speedwork. I'm not concerned at this point in the season but my HR was a very constant, managable 177 throughout but my legs just aren't ready for racing right now, gotta get more speedwork in. Event comments: Anything with Harpoon at the end is fantastic, but they ran out of clam chowder while I was waiting in line for a cup (it was FREEZING, a bowl would have really hit the spot) and the post-race tent just wasn't big enough to comfortably hold all the runners, they added a solid 300 people to the race this year but it seems they used the same size tent. Hopefully they take care of that for next year because it's my only criticism. Last updated: 2010-02-07 12:00 AM

Wakeup at 8am, some oatmeal, coffee and water then out the door at 8:45
Packet pickup at 9am, 20 minute slow jog with a few pickups then a good, long stretch--it was cold out there, had to make sure the legs were nice and loose.
