Swim
Comments: Started by breathing every stroke on the right, after three strokes I alternated to breath every stroke on the left. Kept this up about the first quarter of the swim and it really seemed to help. Struggled with sighting the turn buoy, and the wiggle man at swim finish. This really hampered my navigation. What would you do differently?: Need to work on keeping my hips up during sighting and returning to good swim form after sighting Transition 1
Comments: Struggled getting my legs after the swim, so the run to T1 was tougher than I remember in the past. Also struggled to get my shoes on, spent way more time than I had in the past. Bike
Comments: Racing with Power really help me keep up the pain threshold. Transition 2
Comments: Struggled getting bike shoes off --- again with the bike shoes Run
Comments: Always hate/enjoy this run... What would you do differently?: Push harder, keep that cadence up! Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a sip of heed and couple of glasses of water then made way to Great Harvest Bread Co's bread tent and the Budweiser beer truck (repeated 8x...for a very good morning). Hung out with David Bendert (and crew), Scott McClure, Bryan Hall, B. Hillard, my wife and others while waiting for awards... Overall, I should be happy nearly a full 3min improvement over my last Latta race, this is a real pickup for me. Missed Hiegel and Mitchel out there... never saw Bobby Ball after the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Me. Need to do better at transitions w/ Bike Shoes. Those damn shoes I am sure cost me the few seconds that kept me from my goal of a sub 1hr 40min race. Either way, need to focus on raising my sustain power on the bike, I am sure I can get some more time there, my speed on the run (better maintain my existing 1mi speed) and if I can knock a few minutes off the swim... that would be gravy. Event comments: Always enjoyable... they do need to bring back the post race Coca-cola's... Last updated: 2010-02-07 12:00 AM

Up at 4:35, after a few distractions the night before (work, neighbor reving boat engine, etc) leading to ~4hrs of sleep. (Two more than last year!)
Ate my two mini-cinnamon bagel and a bit (not my normal amount) coffee.
Got to race site a little after 5:30. Parked, rode into Transition area with Alice. Got all chipped and marked up for the race. Found Bryan Hall, Scott McClure and a few other friends, did the well wishes -etc.
Did a final check of transition and headed to warmup
Swam out to first turn buoy and back to get a feel for the water. I did not get in the planned run I had intended. Not sure it made much difference in the outcome
