Pre-race routine:

Woke 5:15, had coffee and NutirGrain bar. Headed for Kings St. Metro stop with Steve, Ev, and Dal a little before 6. Got off at L'Enfente and walked to start. Got in huge line a porta potties. Didn't think we were going to make it on time, so peed in my empty water bottle til I filled it up. Still had to go more, but held it. Got in Corral with probably 5 minutes til start.
Event warmup:

Walk from Metro, light stretching in corral. Took my 5-drops of creatine 15 minutes before start. No Hammer Gel this time.

Comments:

Last training run on Wednesday, I was only 80 percent better over my respiratory infection/bronchitis/whatever it was. Was hoping to be a little better by the race. Was seriously hoping to do at least 7:45 pace, but felt good, so probably like 90% healed. Ran with Dale for first couple miles til he peeled off to take a pee break. Met up with Kim a couple miles later. Ran with her almost a mile I think, then pulled ahead of her. Heading along the river for a couple miles (5 thru 8?) was into a slight head wind, but then turned around and got the tail wind most of the way back. From like mile 9.25 to mile 9.5 was a slight uphill that sortof killed any attempt to pick it up the last mile. I expected this, so I didn't try to pick it up til after the hill, and had a nice sprint in with some highschool kid (of course I out-kicked him!)
Liked the corral/wave start. started about mid-way back of first corral, and most everyone around me was same pace.
Need to get new racing shoes, my DS Racers were shot when I used them at Disney, so ran in my Cumulus trainers.
What would you do differently?:

Not be sick! Had to stop almost all training for 3 weeks before the race! Could have easily came near PR on this course if healthy (1:04:59).
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

recovering from bronchitis.

Event comments:

Need at least 1000 more portapotties at the start/finish area!
My FAA/ITF team got 2nd Place out of all Government Teams entered!
