Swim
Comments: They canceled the swim after half of the waves had gone as it was too windy. Swimmers were blown off course and the buoys were not staying in place. I am disappointed that I did not swim, but not disappointed that I didn't swim in that. I stood on the beach for over a half of an hour before we were directed to TA to do the bike. My feet were absolutely numb and didn't get feeling in them until 2 miles into the run. What would you do differently?: Not do a race in NE in May? I don't know. I don't control the weather, so tough to say... Transition 1
Comments: They didn't time us on this. Our times started at beginning of bike. I was fast (I felt) considering I couldn't feel feet or move fingers very well. Bike
Comments: I am not a fantastic cyclist, but I am still a little disappointed by this time. The course was downhill and flat at first. I was doing well even thought it was cold and windy. I passed a few people and my confidence was good. At about mile 8, the course had to go back uphill. I found that my front gears wouldn't downshift to the lowest ring. I was practically standing still on parts of the ride! Everyone that I had passed returned the favor and I was super discouraged. I was never so happy as when I saw that dismount sign! What would you do differently?: New bike! I used a loaner and it was glitchy (to be kind.) Transition 2
Comments: I didn't wear bike shoes, so I didn't have to change. I ran my bike in and chucked my helmet. I looked longingly at the port-a-potties and ran back out. What would you do differently?: Use the port-a-potties. Run
Comments: I should have used the port-a-potty during T2, because I did use it during the run. Not that it impacted my time greatly, but still. My IT bands hurt on both knees starting about 1.5 miles. The wind was a little brutal, but a quick-seeming run. What would you do differently?: I need to take care of my ITB issues. I ran through, but it affected my time. Post race
Warm down: Get some clothes on! It was freezing. I walked around (ok limped around) for a while then went home. Event comments: My first race. My gear needs to be better, and so do my knees. I didn't get to swim and froze my butt off. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Last updated: 2010-02-11 12:00 AM

I got up at 5:20 after laying in bed for about an hour. I was waiting for the coffee maker to start. Had a cup of coffee and a bagel (and 3 Advil). I had packed the night before, so it went smoothly. I had no picked up race packet and really should have as we parked far from TA. It was a little hectic and not ideal.
I got my area set up and put on my wetsuit. I was chilly, but my feet were freezing! I opted to get in the water as it was pretty windy and choppy and I wanted to test it out. The water temp was OK - much warmer than the air.
