Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30 and felt pumped. Had breakfast and made sure I had all of my gear. Left the house at 6 am and got a ride from my hubby and kids. Up till the time they dropped me off, I wasn't sure what my wardrobe would be exactly. Weather was cold and overcast: did I need sunglasses? a hat? how many layers? Made my choice of sunglasses and a headband (yes Calgary is probably the coldest place in North America today) Also wore a long sleeve coolmax long-underwear type shirt, a short sleeve shirt (Bill Rodgers' Running Center: "The Marathon will humble you" on the back) and a jacket. Eventually took the jacket off, causing someone to comment on the quote on the shirt. Pre-race routine also included dusting my feet with BlisterShield which prevented the ubiquitous blister on my right foot.
Event warmup:

Walked to the start line, and did the port-a-pottie thing twice. Stretched and walked to the start line. Local newscaster was behind me right at the starting line. Looks like she finished about 30 minutes behind me.

Comments:

Great run - I decided: "this is my A race for the year and I've gonna giv'er" and I did. Didn't take many walk breaks.
What would you do differently?:

Not wear the jacket. I'm sure tieing it around my waist added a ton of minutes to my finishing time (joking). I am delighted with my time: it's my PR since I was young, single and childless in 1998!
Post race
Warm down:

Finished and continued walking to the LRT station. Didn't feel like any food. However, 2 hours after finishing, I am starving!!

Event comments:

Great race - good package pick-up - the most efficient I've seen.

last mile was under 10 minutes and I was happy with that!
Course: Mostly flat course from NE Calgary crossing the river by the zoo, down 12 Ave. and 17 Ave. to 14 St. Crossing the river and running down Memorial Drive to nearly Shaganappi Tr. and returning. A couple of little inclines just at the end were a little tough!
