Pre-race routine:

Get up, drive to race site (like a bat out of hades), park and trot to race start about 3 blocks away. Got there with 10 minutes to spare. No food/fuel this morning.
Event warmup:

I did my event warmup the night before by doing a 1:45 bike on the trainer. Other than that I just did light strides on the run to the start.
Run
  • 20m 26s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Quite a lot of puddle jumping so that involved a bit more technical approach but I knew I had not trained for speed in a long time and my Post.Tibial Tendonitis is not gone yet so I held back enough to pay attention to my leg.

This was also the first time I ran any race with a HR monitor. I topped out at 170bmp by the way.

I was trading places with two guys for most of the latter half and kept them within striking distance. After reeling one in and taking the other one over for a while I let up b/c I didn't want to aggravate the tendon. I played it smart and laid off the effort and still got 3rd Place in my
AG. I'm good with that!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...possibly hydrate better before the event
Post race
Warm down:

Kept walking and drank 3 water cups. Pulled off by a tree and stretched my tight calves really well.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I've been training long efforts so speed was not my forte. That said "yeah, I still got some speed"!

Event comments:

This race was done with some cost savings in mind. You could tell. But, that didn't deter from the quality of the event and I'm happy for them. It's hard to make a bad race when you have that course in Lincoln Park.

6:03 on the first mile is too fast. I have to learn to pace better so I have a lot more left for the last mile
