Pre-race routine:

The usual caffeine, sugar routine. Got up at 5am (ouch!), got dressed, made sure all my stuff was in order, and headed out the door at 530. The race site is 30 minutes from my apartment.
Event warmup:

Did a little bit of light stretching, it was cold so I didn't want to stretch out too much and strain something. I tried to walk around a little, stayed warm in my truck so I wouldn't get too tight. At about 10 minutes before the start, I went down to the starting line.

Comments:

I wasn't in the same shape for this year's race as last year's. I finished in 1:47:35 last year, because I was training for the Disney Marathon. Doing triathlons this year has caused me to gain a lot of muscle so I'm heavier and therefore a bit slower this year. Stronger...but slower. I'm still happy with my time though...the last 1/2 I did in September netted me a time of 2:15:35. Still that time got me 99th place out of 300 or so...I didn't see such a good percentile rank this time, but I'm still satisfied with the fact I took 10 minutes off my last 13.1 mile split.

Holy crap there were like three hills AFTER mile 10. The rest of the race is pretty much flat, or just slight declines and inclines. But right after mile 10, there's this 20-foot hill. Yeah...doesn't seem like much, but after 10 miles I'm like "oh jeez please kill me". Of course, I remembered this from last year, but I don't remember it being so big!!! LOL
What would you do differently?:

Well, for the past several weeks I've been running on a strained left ankle ligament, I think that had something to do with my slightly slower time too. It didn't hurt much, I just took it easy because I didn't want to re-injure it. I probably could have gone faster and done better, but I stayed conservative.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit. Had LOTS of water and Gatorade...and then went directly to my truck, changed, and drove off to the (totally awful) UCF/Tulsa game. I paid for that later when I almost fell asleep in a stadium full of 70,000 people.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Like I said before, I think my decision to take it easy was the limiting factor. I could have run faster I think...but I didn't want to run so fast that I hurt my leg again which might have caused a DNF. Don't want those!!!

Event comments:

I always have a good time at this race. Last year's OUC Half was my first halfmary. I was blown away at how well I did (for a first timer). Had I kept my run training at the same intensity this year, I know I could have done better. But I'm happy that now I am getting better at two more things other than running as well. I enjoy running alot, but I've found so much more satisfaction in Triathlon.
