Swim
Comments: I've swam twice since last fall, so I was not expecting much, but came away very pleased. Swimming is the easiest discipline for me, and it was just a 1/2 mile. I'll have to hunker down between now and my July HIM. Smallest amount of contact I've had ever in a Tri. Got chicked (they all started behind us) about 6 feet onto the beach heading to T1...turned to they guy next to me and said "well, at least I wasn't still in the water this time." :) LOVED the sleeveless wetsuit too. So much better for me than the full-suit. What would you do differently?: Not much Transition 1
Comments: Took it nice and easy...no records to be broken today...or will they? ;) What would you do differently?: get out of wetsuit quicker. Bike
Comments: Smartest bike ride I've done to date. I left ego at home and just tried to ride within myself, hydrate, and use the big ring when it gave me speed, not just to look good. The wet roads slowed me down some, but overall I was very pleased with the bike. Saw one dude who took HTFU to a higher level....at about mile 17 I passed a guy missing most of the right back part of his tri-shorts and quite a bit of skin. He was still pedaling strong though, and did not appear to want to quit. I looked back at him and yelled, "Way to suck it up!" What would you do differently?: not much...ride felt great - 86 out of 184....I'll take it! :) Transition 2
Comments: Get to my rack spot and some DB has racked his bike in my spot, and his rear wheel is sitting on top of the middle of my transition bag. I gave his bike the one armed typewriter slide and continued with transition. What would you do differently?: Not much else I could do. I intentionally racked my bike at an interior end spot, so no one could possibly rack on one side of me...it never occurred to me someone would just ignore where they had racked previously. Run
Comments: It's been a while, but I ran the entire length of a triathlon run for a change. Not fast, but I ran it. As another first, I FINALLY broke the 30 minute barrier for a sprint tri 5k...that included a short hop into the men's room to relieve the bike hydration....so I'm actually REALLY pleased to break 30 minutes on this run. What would you do differently?: Get faster. Post race
Warm down: Packed up the car, then went and had a free hamburger and gatorade....outstanding post race food selection. It put FL 70.3 to shame. What limited your ability to perform faster: On and off training for the last couple of weeks. Event comments: I took almost 12 minutes off of my previous time here, so I was really pleased with that....I was 15% slower on the swim, but I was 7% faster on the bike and 8% faster on the run, as far as comparative rankings. Overall, I was in the 43rd percentile, as compared to 31st last time...making progress!! still boggles my mind that someone beat me by almost an hour. 1:20 compared to 2:07. Of course he ran a 16:00 flat 5k at 5:10 pace...holy smokes. Last updated: 2010-02-20 12:00 AM

Race started blissfully late, so it was up at 6:00, out of the house by 6:45, Red Bull, Yogurt covered granola bar, and a gatorade about 45 minutes before the race began.
Got in a swam a bit to get used to water.
