Swim
Comments: 250 yard swim. I felt great and controlled - so glad I put in a lot of yards in the pool each week. Unfortunately I got stuck behind two women who would not let me pass :( Not cool at all. When your foot is touched during a race, it means, LET ME PASS! Great swim otherwise. I probably could have cut half a minute or more off of it if I hadn't had to dwaddle behind the ladies in front of me. What would you do differently?: I felt like I did awesome on the swim. I probably should have put my time as faster since I got stuck behind a lot of slower swimmers who started out fast, but then got exhausted about halfway through. I swim very consistently so that I don't tire out. Transition 1
Comments: I'm doing a little better about transitions. This was not my best time, but I like to give myself amble time to drink Gatorade and make sure I don't feel dizzy. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I know transition should be quick, but if I rush too much, I get sloppy, which costs me more time. Bike
Comments: I am so proud of my bike time!!! Last year when I did this race, my bike time was somewhere in the 45 minute range. I cut off 15 minutes! I am so proud of doing a pace of over 17mph! Wow! I have worked hard on the bike over the summer and spent a lot of time on hills. I was able to get up the hills quickly and easily. I was passed some, but I passed a lot too. I feel like I did the best I could for the bike portion. My awesome bike made a huge difference too - last year I was on a mountain bike! What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Once again, needed to spend time drinking some Gatorade and water to make sure I was okay for the run. I did have a bit of trouble racking my bike, but nothing serious. What would you do differently?: Move just a bit quicker. Run
Comments: During the run, I really felt like I couldn't go much faster than I was going. I tried to keep up a good pace, but I was definitely feeling a bit tired after working hard on the bike. Still, I cut 4 minutes off of last year's time of 25 min! I feel really good about that. What would you do differently?: This winter is going to be big time run training. I know I can be a faster runner, but I need to focus on it and push myself harder. Post race
Warm down: Nothing special - visited with my family and ate a bagel! What limited your ability to perform faster: On the swim, it was inaccurately placing myself for the time trial. On the run, it was need of more training. Event comments: The only reason I give this race a 3 is because I think it is more geared toward first time participants. The tshirt was exactly the same as last years, which was a bummer, and a lot of the participants were probably not up to the task. I heard a lot of people complaining about something as simple as bodymarking, had a person at my bike rack spread a beach towel full length next to their bike in the middle of rack taking up tons of space, and heard a lot of people saying they lied about their swim times and that they couldn't even make it a full 250 yards. If you can't go 250 yards without stopping, you shouldn't say you're a fast swimmer to go sooner because it's not fair to the people who've worked hard and really can swim the length at the pace. Woke up at 5:30, got dressed and out the door before 6am. Ate a peanut butter and honey sandwich and a banana in the car and drank water. Got lost on the way to the race.
200 yards in the pool.
