Pre-race routine:

This was my first tri, so didnt really know what to expect. I only learned to swim properly 1 month ago so was pretty nervous bout the swim. Woke up at 4.45, had a breakfast of cereal and fruit and hopped in the car. 1 hours drive to raby bay, got numbered and transition set up for 6.30.
Event warmup:

My wave didnt go till 9.30, so i had three hours hanging around before the start. In that time because of a tsunami warning the swim was cancelled (wohoo!!) and replaced with a 2k run. 20 mins before my wave just did some light jogging and stretching.
Swim
  • 07m 45s
  • 2000 meters
  • 23s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was replaced by a 2k run. It was really hot when we got underway, but i was very happy with my time, run was always going to be my strong point and the course was very flat
What would you do differently?:

Hopefully at some stage in the future - a swim!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No time recorded for this, but my transition was smooth as i was in my running gear and dont have bike shoes or clip in pedals, so pretty much just had to bang on my helmet
Bike
  • 32m 3s
  • 15 kms
  • 28.08 km/hr
Comments:

i actually went much faster than training, but still painfully slow compared to everyone else. my bike is a $300 road bike, no clip in pedals and i only have straight handlebars so struggle to get any power. but since i enjoyed my first tri im going to upgrade my bike this week!
What would you do differently?:

drink less - cos of the heat i drank all my gatorade and paid for it in the final run
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

No time recorded, but all i had to do was throw off the helmet and rack my bike, it was pretty smooth
Run
  • 19m 20s
  • 4 kms
  • 04m 50s  min/km
Comments:

Really not happy with the run. Because of all the gatorade i was getting stomach cramps for the whole run, i could barely break into a run - disaster. Lost a load of time here, but learned a very valuable lesson
Post race
Warm down:

just had some gatorade and fruit. no need to warm down because the light jog i did for the last 4k run was my warm down!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Drank too much on the bike, and need to get a good tri bike.

Event comments:

Overall pretty happy with my first tri - entering bribie island sprint on march 14th so hopefully will get to swim there!
