![]() Swim
Comments: This was an average swim for me. It was my longest swim in competition so far. Performance was about equal to training. I thought if I had a great swim, I could do a little better, but this was right on about what I had been training at. I started out poorly, not in rhythm, sighting poorly, feeling tired. After about 500m, started to feel better, still slow, and navigating better. What would you do differently?: Need to do more open water training to get used to swimming in wetsuit, and keep training in my weakest leg. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Transition was ok. Got out of suit ok and into socks without too much delay. What would you do differently?: Use more body glide. Noticed that suit came off easier than last time, and think I need to use even more to help that out. ![]() Bike
Comments: For me, I crushed this bike leg. I had hoped to do between 1:15 and 1:20, 1:15 being about a 20 average, given that there was a fair amount of lumpiness to this course. Was very happy to average almost 21. As my wife said, you were way behind coming out of the water, and you moved up a lot on the bike. What would you do differently?: Maybe went close to too hard. Didn't have much left for the run. But will take the trade off in times versus what I was planning. Made up between 3.5-8.5 minutes versus projected time, compared with losing 2.5 minutes of projected time on run. So, overall, I'll take that. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Decent T2. Speed laces have helped this Transition. ![]() Run
Comments: Was tired for the run after a hard bike. I had hoped to be able to do 50 minutes for the run. Did a 10k as prep 3 weeks ago, and did 48 minutes without pushing too much, so hoped could do 50 minutes as part of the tri. Was able to maintain a relatively consistent pace though. What would you do differently?: Keep on training, more bricks, watch going too hard on bike. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked around, got some water and some sort of sports drink they were handing out. What limited your ability to perform faster: This was a pretty good race for me. Had hoped to go between 2:40 and 2:50, so going 2:39 was a good result. Event comments: Well organized race. Lots of staffing, multiple places to pick up race packet, lots of racks. On the bike course there is one hard corner at the bottom of one fast downhill section, and one technical downhill section that I think gave people not familiar with the course some problems. The volunteers need to be more assertive in advising people of technical areas coming up. Last updated: 2010-02-25 12:00 AM

Starting to get into a pre-race routine. Get up early, eat normal breakfast for a long day of cereal and coffee, drive to site.
Did a little lite jogging and stretching.
