Pre-race routine:

Kinetic stretching. I had planned to get a warm up run in but couldn't due to timing on the bathroom sitch.
Run
  • 1h 58m 52s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

I am so glad I took a gel with me. However, I didn't stick to my plan. I had planned to take the gel at mile 6-8. I didn't do it until mile 11.
What would you do differently?:

Keep the day before hydration the same. I needed to have take the gels as planned. Possibly one just prior to the race then one at mid point. A hydration pack would be prudent as the cup thingy sucks because I won't stop and it sloshes all over me. I think I even poured elyte sol'n on my head thinking it was water....my hair was sticky.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nerves, it was my first half mary. The road was potholed and bumpy in parts, just bad for my knees. I was really focused on injury prevention so I slowed in those areas.

Event comments:

Post race results were posted immediatly. An announcer said your name as you finished (kinda cool!). The race awards were given out prior to the absolute last runners coming in, which was well over 6hrs. I noticed the marathon runners were crowded out at the finish sometimes because all runners (10k, half mary, marathon) would enter the same chute. I would still run this marathon though. The crowd was supportive. There were adequate recovery food available immediatly after. My wife and would do this race again.

Performance: Good
Never breached 120.
Course: The road was crappy in many spots. I decided to take care of the knees. The hills are rolling. The views are beatiful as you follow the Bull Creek on an out and back through Giant Redwoods. These trees are massive and tower at 200'. There are shaded areas and sunny areas.
