Pre-race routine:

Got up before the alarm went off. I woke up a few times thru out the night but felt rested overall. Ate a powerbar and a cup of lucky charms. Started drinking water right away.
Event warmup:

Got to the race about an 45 minutes before the start. Found chip pick-up, talked to a few friends then just took it easy and tried to stay warm.

Comments:

The run was my best overall, but could have been better. I ended up averaing 7:57 min miles but my 5K split was 22:11 which is in the 7:09 range. I went out way to hard in this race and really hit a wall around mile 9 or 10.
What would you do differently?:

Next time I will go out at a 7:45 pace and let the race come to me. If I still feel good 9 miles in then I can pick it up for the finish.
Post race
Warm down:

My 2 boys and wife were at the finish line along with my Dad. I saw them, took my chip off then recapped the race with a few friends. Walked 1/2 mile or so to the car and came home. Ate a powerbar on the way home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The limit here was me being hard headed and going to fast out of the gate. Next time I will start with a slower pace.

Event comments:

Overall this was a realy good race. The only thing I didn't like was a lack of timing mats at the start. Everyone's time is the gun time and there are no official chip times. For me I started close to the front so not that big of a deal, but if you were in the back this can be a pain.

Age Group: 4/40
Overall: 67/535
Performance: Good
Course: The course had more hills then I expected. They are smaller hills so nothing real bad or steep. It's thru down town so in the turns the pavement is not very smooth and slopes for water run off. Have to be careful if hugging the inside of a turn. At mile 7 or so you run out on a bridge by the old prison, this is a mini-freeway type bridge with 6 lanes of traffic so there is always wind there. It's about a mile then you take the 9th street exit ramp and get back into residential neighborhoods.
