HIT THE HALF AT 2:08:17, MAKING ME ON PACE FOR MY PROJECTED 4:30:00 - 5:00:00 FINISH. HIT BY DIBILITATING LEG CRAMP (L. QUAD) AT MILE 16, WENT DOWN FOR 20 MIN, RAN/WALKED THROUGH 19, DEATH-MARCHED OUT UNDER THE CUTOFF TIME.
What would you do differently?:

NOT GET SICK 3 WEEKS BEFORE THE RACE. TRAIN MORE CONSISTANTLY. ADD MORE OVERALL MILEAGE TO TRAINING. GO OUT A BIT SLOWER FOR THE START. STRETCH BETTER. WEAR COMPRESSION TIGHTS.

Warm down:

STRETCHED A BIT. WALKED FOR ANOTHER 20 MINUTES THROUGH THE CHECK-OUT CATTLE CHUTE (TOWEL, MEAL SERVICE, CHIP, MEDAL, MEAL SERVICE, GEAR PICK-UP). MET FAMILY, ATE AND RESTED.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A DIBILITATING LEG CRAMP WHICH PERSISTED HALF THE RACE.

Event comments:

VERY COOL RACE. IT WAS MY FIRST MASS-PARTICIPATION EVENT AND IT WAS A 26.2 MILE LONG PARTY. THE CROWD WAS AMAZING AND NEVER LET UP THE ENTIRE TIME. THEY REALLY HELPED PUSH ME THROUGH THE PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY, AND EMOTIONALLY HARDER PARTS. I HAD A SMILE ON MY FACE FOR MOST OF THE RACE.
