![]() Swim
Comments: My first race with a wetsuit. Wetsuits are awesome!! I didn't have to use my legs as much, which was great. After the first 150yd, I got some water in the right part of my goggle, so only took breathes on my left side (was wearing my crappy pair of Nike goggles, because I accidentally washed my good TYR pair). Cut the second buoy and had to swim back around it. Other than those two mishaps the swim felt pretty good. What would you do differently?: Get better fitting goggles, and sight better. Could probably kick more to get speed, but felt really spoiled with the wetsuit. Probably shouldn't get used to that thing :) ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Got the wetsuit off no problem. Probably should have just rode without socks, that added a lot of time. Also, that setup I had with my race top and number, no good at all. Got wrapped up and stuck a little, all wasted time. Then I took off, and realized my HRM strap was laying on the handlebars. It was too late to put on, so I had to run back and set it on my gear. What would you do differently?: Wasted too much time! Get another race belt. Wear top on the swim, even if wearing wetsuit. Decide to have or don't have HRM. ![]() Bike
Comments: Started out well and passed people early on. The first big turn, saw a guy coming out of the ditch (turned out to be one of the guys I chatted with next to my car early in the morning). Turned out to be okay, and bike had not a scratch. He said him and another were taking the turn at the same time, but there were some good potholes there, and to avoid taking out the rider and hitting potholes, he went straight. So he took the ditch route (he ended up passing me later anyways...). So wanted to try and save the quads, because I have had problems in the past where I just waste them before the run, so I kept the cadence pretty high. Felt great on the first half of the race, then I started getting passed. My pace went from about 21-mi/hr to 19-mi/hr. Then on the last quarter of the course their were some pretty good headwinds and crosswinds. Could hear my spokes whistling in the wind :( and ended up dropping down to 16-mi/hr a few times. Arghh! I wanted to break 40-min on the bike, oh well. Came in on the last mile pretty strong and hopped off the bike no prob. What would you do differently?: Not sure, I need a lot of work on the bike. Maybe just increase mileage during the week, even though I don't get many weekends off from work right now. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Fantastically fast transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing ![]() Run
Comments: DID YOU SEE THAT TIME!! Fastest I have ever run a 5k in a race, even in stand alone 5k's. Granted the course was really fast, but still. I came out of the fast transition and converted well into the run. Just tried to gain composure. I was breathing pretty heavily the first mile, but finally calmed down the last two. My ultimate goal for this race was to finish sub-1:15:00. I had a couple more turns left before making it into the finish, and I saw 1:14:something on the clock. I RAN SO HARD!! I wanted to beat the goal!! I seriously was sprinting hardcore (and later made me wonder if I could have ran the whole 5k a little faster). But I certainly didn't have any gas left at the end. I came under the finish truss and just remember I never saw the "15" pop up in the minutes column. I was satisfied! BTW, did you see that 5k time! :) What would you do differently?: Felt like I gave it everything I had to finish strong. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a water, banana and stretched out a little bit. Then once transition opened up I went and grabbed my gear. After that I went with my Aunt and Uncle to downtown Savannah and we had a blast. We grabbed a couple beers and walked around Riverstreet. Great weekend all together. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need more time on the bike!! First Tri after jumping to the next age group... Tough age group... Event comments: They give you an awesome technical shirt! Last updated: 2010-03-02 12:00 AM

Got up at 5am. Drank a couple cups of coffee and ate a powerbar. Then drove from my Aunt's house in Jesup to Savannah for the race.
Was the third racer on site at 7am. Freakin chilly outside. Chatted with others parked close by. Looked at the steam come off the water, looked cold. Got my race packet at 7:30am and started setting up transition. I did not have a race belt, because my last one fell apart at the ING-half, so I took my race top and attached the number to it and set it on my bike for T1. Wasn't really sure how well that would work out...
