Swim
Comments: Good swim - some nastiness, but not too much (got hit a few times). Several occurances of idiots cutting across the group - clearly off course, but on a mission! I actually got a clear inside lane and had my best siting ever - usually I'm way outside. What would you do differently?: Nothing - good swim for me this year. Transition 1
Comments: This race has the 1/4 mile run from the beach back UP HILL to transition. So I put on my old shoes and ran up the hill - breathing was ok. Struggled with wet suit (as usual) and then took forever to get socks and bike shoes on - I've decided I don't like my fancy Specialized Triathlon bike shoes - one reason - NO LOOP in the back to pull shoe on. What would you do differently?: Gotta get different shoes. Bike
Comments: The rain made this a bit uncomfortable - downhills were cautious and getting passed was nasty from the spray - maybe I should have been the one passing! Overall, I thought I did OK, but lack of bike training lately and the rain made for a relatively slow time. What would you do differently?: I should have trained more this summer on my bike. Conditioning is fine, but speed isn't what it should be. Transition 2
Comments: Slow again. Was trying desperately to not get my shoes soaked right away. Changed my socks, as they were completely soaked and nasty. What would you do differently?: I don't know, I suck at transition. Run
Comments: I thought I would kick ass in the run - I have trained a lot this summer. Maybe it was the rain, but it was raining on everyone. Maybe it was my vacation from the previous week (more likely). Felt good - especially in the last mile. Not sure why my place wasn't better - I should have been closer to 8 min/mile for this distance. What would you do differently?: Not spend the previous week drinking beer and eating fried seafood. Post race
Warm down: Had some water, packed up wet stuff and dumped in the back of the truck. Hooked up bike and then went back for a cold beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: Previous week of vacation at the beach - however, I would not have traded it for even a first place finish!! Just will have to train harder to be able to withstand. Event comments: I like this race and the Olympic distance. The lake is beautiful and the bike and run courses are good. Special thanks to volunteers for helping in the rain. Very happy they replaced last year's "1 beer" policy (and selection of a heavier beer) with a few tubs of ice cold cans of Bud Light - much more refreshing - and I could have 2!!! Still need to work on the food - Peach Pie is not a great post race food (IMHO). Last updated: 2010-03-03 12:00 AM

Got up at 430am loaded truck and got drinks together. Had an Atkins Peanut Butter Cup and a potato roll, plus coffee (of course). Drank my G1 about an hour before race.
Oh, by the way, it was raining.
Tried to find best way to keep stuff dry - plastic bags and extra towels. Got on wet suit early (why not, its raining!) and made my way down to the beach. Swam alittle - water was BEAUTIFUL - this is the nicest lake I've swam in for sure.
