Swim
Comments: Glad I brought clear goggles since cloudy and no sun. Managed good sighting and pretty happy with swim. What would you do differently?: nothing. Transition 1
Comments: Big timing chip, so was carefull removing suit. Since I still wear sox for bike and run, had to sit my big ass down to put sox on. So both of these had slow T1. What would you do differently?: No sox. Bike
Comments: At the start, realized all the rain shorted out my bike computer. Plan was to watch watts and have something left for run. So much for plan A, went on gut feeling. Was raining slightly for start but around lap 3 big time rain. One turn was a slight right hand up hill after a wicked down hill. Brakes are wet, tight turn, very exciting. Course was maked with great police help at every intersection. What would you do differently?: water proof computer? Transition 2
Comments: Pretty easy transition. Racked bike, put soaked feet into dry shoes and off for the run. Run
Comments: Was not expecting a "rolling" course. Very nice paved path through park with tunnels. Nice scenery, but mile down to turn around was down hill, which made the first mile after turn around up hill. Once up, rolling to finish. Hoping for 8:30 pace, but that didn't happen. Better, but not good enough. What would you do differently?: work even more on the run. Post race
Warm down: At finish they had cold wet towels wrapped around cold water bottles. Very nice. Got some grub, packed up gear and put on dry clothes. What limited your ability to perform faster: It was wet, not hot, but still my run sucks. So it was me that limited my ability. Event comments: First time at Reston and it was a great race, from organization, volunteers, police event to swag which was pretty cool. Definately a must race through Reston. Woke up to rain. Has not rained all summer, but has to rain on race day. Have practiced in rain, so no big deal. Better wet than hot. Had breakfast at hotel and drove to race site. This race has two transitions. Parked at T2 which was also race finish. Set up T2, running shoes in plastic bag and fuel belt. Assembled bike, then the big rain came. Sat in car until 6, then road to to T1. This was interesting. Had to carry T1 gear on the bike, in the dark in the rain. They give you a bag to put your T1 gear into after the swim, so put everything in tri bag and rode to T1 with flashlite.
The ride to T1 was a nice warmup, set up T1, and gor quick swim before start.
