Swim
Comments: I had to really force myself to breathe, I was so hopped up on adreneline. I knew I was in trouble when after the first 100 yards, I looked at my watch an realized I was about 30seconds faster then my normal 100 time. I tried to keep a comfortable pace and remembering to breathe. It was around 250 or 300 yards that I really started to feel it in my shoulders and started sucking air. I am happy i only paused long enough at each wall to suck in some air and push off again. What would you do differently?: Not much. Transition 1
Comments: I knew this would be the slower of my two transitions. Towled my feet off and slipped on my socks, but they didnt quite want to go on. Slipped into my shoes no problem. Tshirt on, knee brace on, sunglass, helmet and good to go. What would you do differently?: Tighten the knee brace better, it popped off me as I was running out of transition. Bike
Comments: I maintend a pretty good pace on the way out, but could not maintain it on the way back. The hills after the turnaround slowed me down into the single digits. I pushed myself but not to hard so that I would hopefully have a little bit left for the run. Followed my hydration strategy and it seemed to work. What would you do differently?: Practice going up hills. Transition 2
Comments: Great transition for me. Rack the bike, helmet off and out we go. What would you do differently?: My fingers where numb and I had a hard time getting the helmet off. But that would have only shaved a couple seconds off. Run
Comments: I struggled on the run. I didn't have much energy leaving transition. I tried to get into a rythem of running from one telephone pole and then walking to the other. I was only semi successful with that strategy. Battled leg cramps and high heart rates for most of the course. With a 1/4 mile to go I stopped for the first time as a charlie horse hit right above my left knee. Turning the second to last corner my family was cheering and I was given some words of encouragement. I blocked out all pain and ran to the finish line. It was the adreneline of the crowd and the encouragement that carried me to that finish line. What would you do differently?: Not wreak my motorcycle so that I couldnt run for 4 weeks. =) Post race
Warm down: I was given some water and a cold towel to put on my neck. I sucked in air and had to sit down and sip at the water for a few minutes. What limited your ability to perform faster: My weight Event comments: I finished and managed to beat my goal time of 2hrs. I am sore as all get out and want to eat a couple cows, but I am so happy and proud to finish the race and be a triathlete Last updated: 2010-03-05 12:00 AM
