Swim
Comments: I have really grown to love open water swimming. It is my favorite part of the race. I find it relaxing which may mean I could have gone faster. But I did improve over last year by 3-4 minutes. The current was pretty strong and pulled you to the right. But since I naturally pull to the left,I used that to my advantage and went amazingly straight! Transition 1
Comments: It took me about 2 minutes of a steady jog to get to Transition. Did not use socks and that helped my time a little. Bike
Comments: Flat course. I did 3 minutes better than last year. What would you do differently?: I need to ride more. Transition 2
Comments: Maybe I could get faster at transitions if I practiced them! Run
Comments: I gave it all I had. About 2 minutes faster than last year. Post race
Warm down: Talked to friends. Event comments: This is my favorite race of the year. Kudos to Setup Events for putting on a fantastic event. My overall time was 10 minutes faster than last year and 3 minutes faster than 2008-the first year I did the race Last updated: 2010-03-07 12:00 AM

Stayed at Residence Inn with a friend. We shared a 2 bedroom suite. Worked out great. I got to Wilmington around 12:30 and the hotel got me in my room early. I went swimming in the channel for 30 minutes and then biked for 30 minutes . Before going to packet pickup,I had a double scoop of ice cream at Kohl's. We had dinner at Moma Fu's on Friday night. Good food.
We biked to the race site(2 miles) on Saturday. Good plan so we did not have to worry about parking.
The hotel had their breakfast stuff out before 4:30 in order to accommodate all the racers staying there. I appreciated that thought and enjoyed some cereal and coffee.
Race started at 7:00 so I got there about 5:45. Unfortunately, the old guys swim wave was not till 8:00. We had to take a bus to the swim start. About a 1/2 hour before my swim time,I decided to swim a little and noticed my goggles had split in half at the nose guard. These were new goggles I had bought this week. Not happy. Started asking for duct tape and found some. But then a young lady said she had an extra pair of goggles that she hated because they were too big for her head. She gave them to me and I felt like I had won the lottery. The only thing I could give her was a hug. The goggles worked great.
