Swim
Comments: I expected to swim around 36 mins but will not complain considering how much I had to stop and look up just to find the next marker. Horrible swim start to what would be a horrible day. Transition 1
Comments: It was okay. I took my time and put socks on cleaned off my feet just wanted to make sure I got everything on properly. What would you do differently?: Nothing really I was okay with it. Bike
Comments: Actually okay with my bike. I held back a lot thinking I was setting myself for a good run. I drank 3 bottles gatorade endurance, 2 shot blocks, and a 220 calorie powerbar fruit smoothie. The bike was the best part of the day and if I'd known what was about to come I'm still not sure I could have slowed down anymore. Maybe I should have just hammered it! What would you do differently?: Not sure. Transition 2
Comments: Okay transition. I was super pumped to start the run and felt great. Run
Comments: WOW did I bonk!!! Well here is the story. Ran out of t2 feeling like a rockstar about to go break my race goal of 5:15. I expected to run around a 1:30-40 half mary. Mile one garmin says 7:08 so I say slow down settle in don't get too excited mile 2 at 7:25 good perfect pace and feeling great. Mile 3 still 7:25 GREAT! I drink a gatorade and water at aid station and pass on the gel thinking I've had plenty not need in more calories :-) Mile 4 still 7:25 alright rock on Dustin, mile 5 @ 7:30 I'm getting hot but only 5 secs slower pace that's okay get some water and gatorade. 5.8 miles in....BAM I ran over the mythological brick wall and it landed on top of me. I found this nice police officer and asked to be removed from the course, he said it would take at least 30 min for someone to come get me so I sat there for 15 min until this nice lady came from the aid station at mile six with water and gatorade for me. I pucked, drank and drank some more then a fried came by and convinced me to try running again so I took off. I made it to the aid station at mile 6 and took a gel and drank more gatorade/water. This turned out to be a 27 min mile. From here on to the end of the race I shuffled at around a 11-12 min pace and walked each aid station. It was horrible. I realize that a 2:14 half mary for some is okay but I was pissed and ashamed that I did that especially not knowing what went wrong. What would you do differently?: Not sure still can't figure out what went wrong, but it sure wouldn't be bonk. Post race
Warm down: HA, warm down...1 hr in the medical tent! What limited your ability to perform faster: Near death on the run. Event comments: Great race in NOLA, swim was tough but you can't stop the wind. Wonderful finish line even though it was a big blur for me. Last updated: 2010-03-08 12:00 AM
