Run
Comments: So this was the fastest run pace I've ever had in my life, but it still left me in last place for my age group by 1:06. What would you do differently?: Nothing. It went well. Transition 1
Comments: 30/175. So only 29 of 174 people, many of whom leave their shoes on the bike, beat me through T1. And I take the time to put on my 3-strap road shoes, on top of the fact that I'm a slow runner. What the heck are they all doing? Stopping for a snack? What would you do differently?: Find somebody who makes reasonable priced tri-shoes in size 50. Bike
Comments: Windy in the less sheltered 3 miles near the water. Pretty good ride. This was my slowest bike time of the series, but the difference between my fastest and slowest this year was only 24.3 seconds. Sat behind the #2 female for about 4 miles, as I didn't have the legs to pass and stay in front. Finally went by when she slowed to drink. She went back by me when I slowed to drink at the turn-around. Passed her for good with about 4 miles to go (of course, she blew by me about 500 yards into the run). What would you do differently?: Maybe push a little harder during the outbound leg. Not sure if that would fry my legs, though. Transition 2
Comments: Almost ran into a guy who was coming out of his row but not looking for oncoming traffic. Actually passed someone while running with the bike. What would you do differently?: 31/175. I'm happy with this time. Run
Comments: Legs felt pretty good. I was hoping to be closer to the time from the first run, but my overall placing was much better. And I actually beat somebody in my age group. Post race
Warm down: Waited for Cville, got some food & gatorade. Event comments: Coming into this race I was in 4th place for the series. The guys who were in 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th didn't show up, so I wound up getting the second place award. While my initial goal for the year was to get series hardware for this race, I'd like to have at least beaten someone for it. My second goal for any race I do was introduced to me by Bruce Wacker, 2008 Xterra M60-64 World Champion (in the timberline shelter on Pikes Peak): Beat all the women in my age group. I had success in #2, and missed it this time by 7 seconds. For the series, she got me 3:53:29 to 3:54:52. Would have been 2/5 if I had registered Clyde. Last updated: 2010-03-08 12:00 AM

Totally screwed up, as the swim was canceled due to copious amounts of bird poo. Apparently the inlet where the swim is held is a favorite autumn gathering place for thousands of seagulls, and they showed up a month early this week. Breakfast was a bologna sandwich and a banana. Had the banana HammerGel sample from the race pack about 20 minutes before start time.
Jogged out to the 1/2 mile marker and back.
