Pre-race routine:

Stuck with the usual shreddies and a poptart and some inifinit about 1.5 hours before race.

Went with a tech under, long sleeve tech outer then the race tshirt with number pinned. Had running shorts and tights but left the tights at the car. Very light snow around 2 degrees, so shorts still good.

Event warmup:

Running up and down a side street to force the bathroom issue then into the marriot. Started about 4 rows back from the front which was about right.

Comments:

ARGH bad math/planning. I didn't want to blow up on this race as marathon in 3 weeks so I was planning on going hard but not trying for sub 40. But my last 10k was 41:59 with being able to do another 10k a few hours later so I wanted low 41 or 40:50ish.

But in my head I just thought, oh, 41 that's 4:10/km pace so keep it deep below 4:20 for sure. Problem is, that's not right! 4:05 is more like it for a 41, and 4:20 is like 43+ !!!

So short of it is I was trying to go a bit harder but ended up holding the same effort as last 10 a few weeks ago and was within 10 seconds. Bah. But it's probably for the best cause I feel great (other than missing some of my long run).

What would you do differently?:

Next year we shoot for the 40:x or even sub-40.

Post race
Warm down:

2 250mls of choco milk (love that they have it as after-race drink) and some infinit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad math!

Event comments:

A good race, probably not wise to have signed up for it with it being 3 weeks before a marathon but whatever.
