Swim
Comments: As bad as yesterday's swim felt, today's felt awesome. I felt like it all came together - I could breathe and I had a good stroke. I even was able to focus on extension and entering at 11-1... things I couldn't even remotely think about the day before. I even got into it a little around the buoys and allowed myself a little contact with other swimmers. I passed some swimmers which shocked the heck out of me. I felt so good about my swim (until I saw the results... but I really felt like the course must have changed because I felt SO good! But my time went down 34 seconds) What would you do differently?: Nothing - I loved this swim. But for my longer swims, I'll have to go out slower because I was ready to be done after the 1/4 mile which surprised me. Transition 1
Comments: I took advantage of strippers again - LOVE them. I was bound to transition a little faster today, after the 6 second goal missed yesterday. So I tried to "hurry" a little more. Did forget my glasses though - which figures because it was bright and sunny. Oops. Anyhow - still a better/faster transition than the day before which was good. What would you do differently?: I think I am going to try and train without biking gloves from now on and remove that little bit of time getting those on. I still don't feel ready to do the feet clipped in already thing. Bike
Comments: I am stunned how low my heart rate was. As I was out on the course, my legs were definitely talking to me. And then about mile 10-11, my back started talking. I was definitely feeling weary from day 1 and 2... and a little nervous that I wouldn't be able to run after this bike. So I think I didn't push it as hard as I could. I did push it at the end though - there was one guy I'd been chasing the entire time that I wanted to pass - I passed him on the big hill. By then I'd decided I was being stupid and I just needed to bike my heart out - but I guess my RPE and my actual HR were 2 different things - I am just stunned. Anyhow - when the bike felt like it was getting long - I kept telling myself how awesome my swim was, and how if I just kept pushing that my 1:30 goal might be achievable. I was definitely showing how tired I was on the bike though. Even on the way out (downhill) I felt like the wind was preventing me from going as fast as I should be going - but I didn't want to hammer down the hill because I knew that time back up the hill would be even more difficult. 15 miles is nothing, I should have just DONE it. What would you do differently?: Clearly could have pushed harder physically. Transition 2
Comments: I do not jump off my bike. :) I am not coordinated enough so I don't think I'll have that as one of my goals right now. My running was much better today and I didn't scare any fans. Transition time was same from yesterday to today. Bike gloves have to go. No hat again. Remembered to put my sunglasses on for the run so that was nice. What would you do differently?: Not sure other than the bike gloves. Run
Comments: This run felt really good at the time. I was passing more than being passed. I started out a little slow (on purpose) to figure out how I felt because I definitely felt tired on the bike. Once I realized I was fine, I started to push. After mile 2 aid stop - I really decided to leave whatever was left on the course. So I tried to beat the 8 minute pace. It felt good actually - I kept remembering that 6 seconds from yesterday and wanted to make sure I had no regrets from the run - and I don't. Post race
Warm down: Muscle milk and some lunch. What limited your ability to perform faster: me Event comments: I am happy with the results - top 20% of females specifically. Top 35% overall and top 1/3 of my age group. Especially for my 2nd tri of the weekend and 3rd day of racing the weekend. However, even better was how I felt immediately following the race. I felt great. Only now am I kicking myself about the bike because I've looked at my HR results. But during the race and after - I felt like I had really given it my ALL. I was psyched with my swim, felt I'd improved T1, and really made sure I felt like I had NOTHING left on the run. So all of those things were great. Overall my favorite race of the weekend for sure. woke up at 5 am again, packed my bag in the morning this time because all my stuff was still soaked from the night before - had 2 packets of oatmeal and a banana for breakfast with some water. (because was still hadn't bought milk which I usually have with my pre-race breakfast also). Headed over to transition around 6:50 - still one of the first people in. But I definitely wanted to do my good warm up again.
Bike about 22 mins out and back on the course with small increases in cadence and speed to increase heart rate for a minute or so. Relax, relax relax. I was told when I had my VO2 and LT test that the shorter the race, I needed a longer warmup due to how my body works... so I was trying that. After my bike, I went back to transition to put on my running shoes and do a little jog. Wore my Nike Frees for this run so I'd have dry shoes and I like them for shorter runs. This time I did some little sprints which felt good. I only wore my GPS for the bike warmup http://connect.garmin.com/activity/40061952
