Swim
Comments: Overall good swim, considering I could only swim 50M without getting tired 6 months ago! What would you do differently?: Train more. Learn how to draft. Transition 1
Comments: Had to use restroom in transition - too much pre race hydration. Restroom was part of transition area, which was good. Intentionally took it slow. What would you do differently?: Speed it up a little without getting too hectic. Bike
Comments: I knew going into this it would be tough due to the 25 mph consistent winds. Taliwind heading out, I told myself to enjoy it while averaging 27 MPH on the straights. Knew the last hour would be brutal. Strong crosswinds on the 2 loops, major headwinds on the way back. Got passed by many riders during the last 13 miles. Had to give it all and could not save any for the run as planned. What would you do differently?: Train harder and smarter. Averaged 70 miles per week during training which was not enough. Transition 2
Comments: Again used the bathroom in T2 which added time. Biggest issue was I lost my Garmin. I had the 205(not waterproof)so I planned on using it only for the run. Had watch in my shoes but they got knocked over by someone in transition. Someone then strapped the garmin to the cross bar several slots down from mine. Probably thought they were helping but I just didnt see it. Looked for about 90 seconds and then said screw it ran without. What would you do differently?: Get a waterproof Garmin and wear for entire race(which I have since done). Run
Comments: My plan going into the race was not to push the run, simply average 10 minute miles and do around a 2:10. Didnt happen - ran the first 7 miles with no stops. Once I passed the finish line after the 1st loop and left the park and re-entered the zoo I lost a little motiviation. Legs were completely spent by the extra effort needed on the bike due to the wind. Lost my appetite(but not thirst) the last 4-5 miles. Basically did a run/walk every 2-3 minutes for the last 6 miles. Dissapointing. What would you do differently?: Train more on the bike, so I would have more legs for the run. This run was an hour slower than my best half marathon. Post race
Warm down: Walked for a minute and sat down on chair/drank water and just was exhausted, dissapointed, but very proud/happy all at the same time(if that makes any sense!) What limited your ability to perform faster: Wind on the bike, not enough Bike training, need a better training plan. Event comments: Great event. Not thrilled with the overall time or ranking, but considering this was my first Half Iron, and my first Triathlon was in June 2009 I am extremely happy overall. More training and more races next year - I am addicted! Last updated: 2010-03-12 12:00 AM

Light jogging, lots of hydration. Learned the race would be wet suit legal
