Swim
Comments: First 700 m I was breathing every two strokes. Finally, on the second loop, I was able to relax and breathe bilaterally, every third stroke. The hothead saved my life! Fingers were so cold, that I couldn't keep them closed together when pulling. Face finally went numb, as well as feet. Fair amount of chop...drank a few big gulps of the lake. What would you do differently?: Relax and site better. Transition 1
Comments: Hands were so cold that I had trouble using them to get on my socks and shoes! Was dizzy from the cold water and fell over trying to get the bottom half of my wet suit off...luckily there was a parked car by me to break my fall :) Snarfed down a Powergel, gagged, and almost booted it up. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Roar! Kept waiting for the hill to top out...it never did. Even though I was hitting 43 mph on the downhill, it didn't make up for the 8.2 mph uphill. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Quick T2. What would you do differently?: Take in a little more water before heading out. Run
Comments: I have never had such tired legs after the bike...probably had to do with the first 1.5 miles of the run being straight up a monster hill. Finally found my groove and finished strong. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Hung out waiting for some other peeps to finish...ate some fruit and tried to rehydrate. Event comments: Soma 1/2 Ironman was far easier than this race...beautiful scenery and a good challenge. Last updated: 2010-03-13 12:00 AM

Woke up at 2:39 am and was up! Showered and hopped in the car. No pre-race eating for me.
Got in the water about 5 minutes before the start to try to get acclimated...let some cold water into my wetsuit, hoping that it would heat up...it didn't until I started the swim.
